Revenge is Mine

Romans: 12v19

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves...for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord

The Lord Jesus Christ, on the evening of the Last Supper, before HE was betrayed - when all the disciples were arguing about who was going to have the best seat in heaven and who was going to have to be sitting nearest to the Master - stood up, filled a basin with water, took a towel and started to wash the dirty, stinky feet of His disciples.

Can you imagine how devasted they must have been when they realized what He was saying? In effect, He was saying that if you want to be the greatest in the kingdom of God you have to be the least. If you want to be the first, you have to be prepared to be last.

When Jesus was judged by Pontius Pilate, He responded to Pontius Pilate's accusations with unbroken silence. Isn't that powerful? He could have called down a legion of angels from heaven and destroyed Pontius Pilate, all the priests, and indeed the entire city of Jerusalem, by one word. But He said nothing.

John and James, the Sons of Thunder (Mark 3:17), once said to the Lord, "Lord, why don't You just call down a legion of angels from heaven and destroy these people and be finished with it?" But Jesus didn't do that. In fact, He caused His accusers, and His spectators to wonder in awe at the fact that He did not even try to defend Himself. It takes tremendous courage to say nothing.

In our daily living, we as Christians should emulate Christ in our lives. We must not be quick to justify our actions, or always have a final say. We must ask God to give us faith to be able to say nothing - let our silence rather speak louder than words.
