IS ANYONE LISTENING? It has been one of those weeks again. I am convince that the Lord has not commanded me to be “successful” but he has commanded that I be “faithful” to where He has placed me. And “increase” is up to him. I have never gotten wearied OF the work of the ministry…but I have gotten wearied “IN the work.” I guess what I am trying to say is this. Sometimes I wonder if I am “beating a dead horse” in trying to start a bible believing church here and in the writing of articles for the local paper. I debate in my mind whether anyone is listening to my messages or is considering what I write, or is the entire effort a waste of time? I have wondered on many occasions do the folks really want such a church as I am trying to establish. Lately, I ask myself, is it maybe me that is hindering the advance of the church?
An attorney, who is also a United Methodist “fill-in” preacher often contacts me and admonishes me about being so negative in my Herald-Standard articles. This week, the paper carried an article that he had written and which was directed at me and several of my recent articles. He asserted that I need not be so critical about our culture and our spiritual direction as a nation. He was especially indignant that I sometimes criticize “other churches and religions.” The good “reverend” is convinced that all humanity is basically good and that so long as any person is sincere and honest in their individual “spiritual journey” that God will accept them as they are. But is this so?
To deny the basic biblical assertion of human depravity destroys, or, at the very least, greatly diminishes Christ’s sacrifice at Calvary. Surely Jesus did not suffer the brutal, shameful, agonizing and torturous death that he endured because we are “basically good.” If we are good enough to earn salvation on our own, then Christ’s bleeding and dying are meaningless [Galatian 2:21]. Many seek to diminish the unspeakable horrors of the Cross. The reason for attempting this is quite simple. For one to recognize the awfulness of Calvary is to admit that it is humanity’s great sinfulness which demanded a price so terrible. But this traditional teaching is hardly ever heard anymore. It is not the sort or preaching that people care to hear.
Regardless, the biblical teachings of fallen humanity and human sinfulness are the only Christian doctrines that need not be accepted by faith. We need only look at our world and society. The terrible human crimes and wickedness in the world are indisputable testimony to man’s sinfulness and his spiritual alienation from God. We should not be surprised then at the brutality, barbarism, moral chaos, and evil rampant in this world…we were warned by Christ to expect it. We realize that self-pleasing often has a home in our own hearts. If we are honest we must admit that often many politicians, our courts, and our new attitudes and norms defy God and call evil good and good to be evil. If this be so, why is so difficult to accept that our national decline and dysfunction may be simply a consequence of our own choices and deeds? I wonder is anyone listening…sighhh. I sometimes wonder if anyone even cares anymore.

@thedeplorable1 don't give up. Gal 6:9 says - Let us not give up in doing what is fine, for in due time we will reap if we do not tire out. More further Re 2:10 tells us - Do not be afraid of the things you are about to suffer.
You are just doing the right so don't let negative thoughts revolve around you my friend.
I ask myself these same questions. It seems if you have a view that isn't all rainbows and beautifies when it comes to religion then your no longer holding any value. People want instant gratification, they show up they get a prize... that's not how God works.
I agree! God is not a magic genie that appears only when we 'want" something. It take a personal relationship, a friendship like no other! Thank you for your comments.
Your welcome. I think it's also important to note that our God is a selfish God... as in he wants it all. So I pray continuously. All the time I am talking to God. I feel like that helps but idk.
Hang in there, brother. You know all of heaven rejoices when even one lost sheep is saved, right?
One thing I will say, is that I don't disagree with your analysis of human depravity, maybe it isn't the best approach for evangelism. I know it's what is commonly done, but isn't the Gospel "Good News."
I think some of the stuff we as Christians throw at people who aren't believers is better kept in house, and the thrust of evangelism should focus more on sharing what Jesus did for us.
I don't know... It seems like these days most people have a negative opinion of Christians as judgemental, and even hateful people.
Just some thoughts, not picking on you. I know this, though; if you feel like God is calling you to the ministry, you better stick with it. He chastens those he calls sons, so... Just saying.

First...consider the source...The history of the Methodist Church and their involovment in Socialist causes is a long one which is documented. Their influence on labour unions in England is well known.
Are you familiar with Pastor Thieme III of Berachah Church in Houston Texas...he was also a Captain in the Army. He is an ICE Pastor....I for isasgogical...C for catagorical....E for exegetical teaching. His studies are recorded as are his fathers of R.B.Thieme Jr. Bible ministries at rbthieme.org, who was a Colonel in the Air Force.
Your post brought to mind many greats from the Bible...having the same experience....nonetheless they see beyond what is here and now...all had to pass the test of being the lone voice. In Elijahs case...God showed him he was not alone...there were five thousand who were in the land who had not forsaken God.
