God did it

Or was it Allah? Maybe it was Poseidon, or Thor? Maybe it was the great Juju of the sky!

I have often wondered why people choose faith over logic. Why people wake up in the morning and CHOOSE to believe in fairy tales. I have asked them to explain it to me. And their answer always ends up being, it's my faith. Faith? FAITH? Do you also have faith in government? What about faith in fiat currency?

Liberals will say, but people should be allowed to believe whatever they want. And sure, people should be allowed to believe whatever they want. But do religious people actually have a choice? I don't think so. Christians teach their children that they will burn in hell for an eternity if they deviate from their faith. Certain Islamic countries will stone their children to death if they show deviance. There is no choice. Religious people were forced into their religions in the same way that the rest of humanity are forced into societal norms. If you don't have faith, you will be PUNISHED.

Faith is willful ignorance. If someone asks me why the sky is blue, and I tell them, because God spilled a bucket of blue paint on the ceiling, that would seem ignorant, right? In this day and age, a simple google search can give me a much better explanation. It will even guide me towards methods of testing the explanation for myself. The same thing goes for every religion that exists today. So why aren't the religious using this wealth of knowledge to learn about their religions? How many Christians even know when and where their religion started? How many Muslims know about the life of Muhammad? Not many. Because if they did, it would take a hell of a lot more than FAITH to keep them faithful.

Instead they rely on a book that was written and rewritten by scribes in desolate shacks to promote the propaganda of their time. That's similar to me using a 1941 newspaper to learn about current politics.

Insane right?

Yes, yes it is.

So fellow people who read my posts. Don't be idiots. Do some research. Find some evidences to support your ridiculous beliefs. And have rational discussions about it.

Don't be sheep.

Wake up.

The time is now.

“And do you think that unto such as you
A maggot-minded, starved, fanatic crew
God gave a secret, and denied it me?
Well, well—what matters it? Believe that, too!”

Faith is a place to hide, you only need faith in yourself. Religion is a lie built from selling salvation firstly by the Egyptians thousands of years ago. Never deny a message of peace and love. The universe holds us all.

My dad loved reading Omar Khayyam poetry. I myself followed his mother and am a muslim (not a very good one, but I try). Faith is a personal thing that leads from experiences throughout life. It isn't something logical but emotional. When a gnostic or atheist makes a logical argument it is always interesting to read all the same. Just remember to do everything with a positive sense and love, and we will all learn a lot ;-) Cheers

I wrote this post a while ago, so I had to reread it. But I think the message I was trying to portray here wasn't that logic is better than emotion. But that rational thinking is required in ALL things. It has less to do with what you believe and more with why you believe it. I made the argument that most religious people have no idea where their religions came from. And this topic has many, very factual answers. It has been researched by scholars for a thousand years. So why aren't religious people interested enough to actually look it up? They rather believe the stories they hear, given to them by people who are less qualified than the average 5 year old. I want to encourage people to actually learn about their religions, so that they can hold an argument when faced with a logic-throwing atheist.

I got your point. To answer your question, religious belief or faith itself isn't something that can be debated. When people come from different perspectives, it becomes a worthless exercise. The historical research of religions may be something many believers and non-believers are not familiar with and debating that is always useful. One also needs to remember that even historians start out from a certain bias, so the debate can be hard, but useful all the same because it can lead to knowledge and enlightenment, regardless of one's faith or lack thereof.

Good post!
