Today I would like to look at Colossians 2 verse 8
8)See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception [pseudo-intellectual babble], according to the tradition [and musings] of mere men, following the elementary principles of this world, rather than following [the truth--the teachings of] Christ
My Afrikaans Bible translate the take captive, with take away from God. We must not let people mislead us with philosophies that are not founded on the Bible and what Jesus teaches us. We must dismiss all teachings that pretend that people and not Jesus has the answers to our salvation. This can take us away from Jesus.

We must be careful with the teachings, remembering that those who pretend to deceive us will pretend to be our brothers and sisters and their instrument may even be the Bible!

Amen, Christ is our solid rock and our foundation truth. Outside of that is just sinking sand. It is nice that you share insights from the African bible, I've learnt a lot today.
Amen, thank you so much for the very nice comment. I find that it helps to look at different translations as I believe it is difficult to translate some of the very old languages into modern languages. By looking at more than translation, you might get a better understanding.
Yes, thanks for the great advise! Yes I agree because at times I came across some of the greek and hebrew words from the bible and often bible teacher used many words just to elaborate the definition of that single original word from the bible.
