And the holy week begins!!!

This is a day which the Church enters the mystery of the Death, Burial and Resurrection of her Lord andbrings together the triumphal procession of Christ as king and the proclamation of His Passion. On this day the Church recalls the entrance of Christ the Lord into Jerusalem to accomplish his paschal mystery. This takes place at all Masses accordingly.

Moreso,, today marks the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem and heralds His death as well. The amusing part of today's reading is the fact that the same crowd who cheered him on, spreading their garments on the floor, cheering at him and chanting " Hosanna in Exclesis" as he rode past in the Gospel of St Mark 11:1-10. In their own words , they had cried saying, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming! Hosanna in the highest!”

They were the same people who screamed for his crucifixion and even placed a curse on themselves, stating that His blood should be on them and on their children- Imagine the chameleon- like followers?😣😣😥😥😥

Taking a meticulous and thorough look at the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark (Mark 14: 1- 15:47). You will observe with great disdain that the people preferred a hardened criminal to Jesus.This was based on the fact that they had been brainwashed and cajoled by the high priest and Scribes. They had derided him even though they saw his works. This, however saddening was to fulfill scriptures.

What about you and i? We have heard His teachings, felt His touch, seen his manifestations, been redeemed by His resurrection and called into His marvelous light, what then,is our excuse ? They crucified him out of ignorance, do we still hold firm to the lame excuse of ignorance?

Apostle Paul embellishes this point of the ignorance of old by stating that the rulers of the then age did not understand Christ's mission, had they known, they would not have crucified the king of glory (1Cor 2:8).

Furthermore, Jesus Christ knew that they acted innocently in total incomprehension of the purpose of His coming, that was why He begged God thus in Luke 23: 34 , " Father forgive them for they know not what they do" . Do you think this prayer will avail us presently?

Friends, hell is real!!! The aforementioned solemn prayer absolved the people of Jerusalem from their sins but for us, the die is cast! Christ will come again, this time not as a mere mortal but as a king to separate the sheep from the goats. Ask yourselves, are you a sheep or a goat? For Jesus, engulfed in so much pain, to doubt God's presence and exclaim , " My God,My God, why have you forsaken me?" (Psalm 22:1).Then one can begin to feel his anguish, pain and turmoil -All these for our redemption.
