Why Millennials Rejecting Religion And Turning To Witchcraft And Astrology? (And Why You Should Care)
Recent surveys have shown that more and more Americans are turning their back on traditional religion – and instead turning to more esoteric forms of spirituality such as witchcraft and astrology. Pew Research revealed that people aged 18-29 who believed in God had fallen from 81% to just 67%, and that the psychic services industry is rapidly growing alongside a boom in astrology interest and witchcrafting.
While many at the moral heart of America are shocked to see such a radical change in such a decade, it’s clear to see why millennials are looking elsewhere. Their generation is not a happy one, stuck without many of the opportunities their parents have, and in a world that’s polluted, on the brink of war, and full of immovable institutions that aren’t going anywhere.
This feeling of futility leads to interest in ways to tangibly change their lives: and as it so happens, witchcraft and astrology do just that. So what does this mean for marketers? Simply put, Millennials are now adults, and they have spending power.
A lot of that spending power is going online, especially to people who provide them with the goods and services that they seek. Spiritual Wares are no longer the domain of kooky online hawkers, but a more mainstream activity where even something like reiki bath salts and herbal medicine bags are getting attention – and plenty of orders.
For other marketers, helping psychics and those engaged in the spiritual area who have less than attractive websites or advertising can be another way to get involved in this significant cultural shift. Whoever the kids are choosing to follow is where you’ll find the pots of gold.
