Oprah's Super Soul Sunday - misguided spiritual advice?
I'm not sure what your opinion on Oprah Winfrey is, she is very popular, but the spiritual concepts she subscribes to and promotes in Oprah's Super Soul Sunday is very misguided for Christians.
God bless her, but Oprah really gives some terrible spiritual advice that is in total opposition to what the Holy Bible teaches.
In a nutshell, Oprah advocates that you can earn a place in Heaven through works, being good and kind to others, and that you don't specifically need Jesus to get to heaven but any religion is acceptable.
Christians who are strong in their faith should immediately see through this philosophy as untrue.
John 14:6
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Nothing New Under The Sun
Oprah's brand of new age religion is a westernized mix of very old eastern religions like Buddhism and Hinduism lightly cloaked in psychology.
The whole idea of Oprah's spiritual advice is that you can achieve fulfillment by the promotion of self-love and learning to love yourself and others no matter what 'God' or religion to which you subscribe.
Oprah also is, perhaps unwittingly, promoting Gnosticism which is to say you can achieve peace and salvation by way of how much knowledge you have about philosophical concepts such as self-love.

Romans 1:16-18
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
2 Corinthians 5:21
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Thinking Too Much of Good Works
Christians should be very weary of thinking too much of our good works, but know that no work can ever match the glory and perfection of Christ's work on the cross.
Ephesians 2:7-9
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Isaiah 64:6
6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Thinking of Yourself as 'A Good Person'
We are all at fault of sin in our everyday lives and thinking of ourselves as 'good' is not what the Bible teaches, but that we are wretched sinners in dire need of the Lord's grace to save us.
Mark 10:18
18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
Not even Jesus wanted to be called good and no matter how many and how great the works that we do, we should always think of ourselves as less than our brothers and sisters.
It's not about how good of a person you are, like Oprah advocates, but that you accept that Jesus died to save you and only through belief in Him can you be certain and secure that you have a place in Heaven.
God is the Perfect Judge
In the video above, Oprah challenges with the hypothetical that what if someone has never heard of Jesus, but are a good person, will they not get to heaven?
Only God is the judge and He will judge with perfection any hypothetical situation you can think of, but to know for sure that you will be saved from His judgment for any evil you have done and found to be righteous in His sight, the only way is to embrace Jesus and His perfect and pure sacrifice on the cross.
Good Intentions?
Oprah is probably operating from a place of good intentions in her own mind and may even think herself a Christian, but the road to Hell is paved with good intentions and what she is teaching is not of the Bible and not of Christ.
It is a sad case of the blind leading the blind and I pray for those who choose to follow an unBiblical path led by the misguided attempts of Oprah at seeking wide spread acceptance of herself.
I also pray for Oprah Winfrey, that the Lord may show her the true path to Him, someday if it is His will.
Matthew 15:14
14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind led the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Other New Agers to Avoid
Other new age spiritual misleaders you should avoid to guard your Christian faith include Eckhart Tolle (Oprah's primary spiritual adviser), Shirley Maclaine, Marilyn Ferguson, Morgan Scott Peck, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Deepak Chopra, Betty Eadie, Mehmet Oz, Barbara Marx Hubbard, and Neal Donald Walsch.
Philippians 3:18-19
18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 Whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
Don't trust these people. Trust God, trust the Word of God, trust the Bible, trust Jesus and find a Church that teaches from the Bible. New ageism is poison for your soul, against the Bible and against God because it rejects Jesus as our True Savior, King and Lord of All.
The teachings in the new age books by people like Eckhart Tolle is a hodge podge of eastern religions like Buddhism and Hinduism along with some references to the Bible and Jesus' words to be enticing to Christians. What is taught is borderline irrational occultism and it is too bad that many are buying into this deception.
The Truth or A Lie
There are really only two choices in the world for you; either the truth of the Gospel message or something else that is a lie.
One of Satan's favorite lies was exposed in the Garden of Eden when the serpent told Eve she would not die but would be like God if she ate the forbidden fruit.
This deception from the serpent that you will be like God is the exact same thing the new agers are teaching and I find it disgusting but not surprising that the primary target of Oprah Winfrey and her merry band of occultists is women.
Don't be gullible with your spiritual health, believe in the God of Scripture, the One True Holy God of the Bible in who is our salvation found when we follow Jesus by believing and living the Word of God, the truth.
Be Hot For The Word of God
The Lord wants you to be hot for His Word, but it would also be better to be cold than lukewarm, which is what the new agers are trying to teach Christians to be - lukewarm for Christ and the Bible - the Lord hates this. It would be better to be cold for the Word of God so the Lord could give you a jolt and wake you up, but being lukewarm makes it harder to get through to people.
