Minds Governed by the Spirit

in #religion6 years ago

Sexual harassment cases have ruined a Who’s Who of reputations in the past few months, and much of the blame falls on our pornographic culture. Writing in the Los Angeles Times, Zac Crippen points out that behind the harassment problem is a pornography crisis, which has fostered a sexually aggressive society. “Nobody is talking about what could be one of the most effective ways to attack the problem: Recognizing that pornography consumption is a public health crisis,” Crippen said.

Romans 8:1-6

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them
which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the
flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak
through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the
likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin
in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be
fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but
after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the
things of the flesh; but they that are after the
Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be
spiritually minded is life and peace.

Like most addictions, pornographic habits are difficult to control, and it requires great effort to keep one’s mind and habits free from immorality. But we possess a powerful weapon in God’s Word—the Sword of the Spirit. Scripture offers protection against the lust of the flesh. We must set our minds on the things of the Spirit, and nothing helps more than Bible study and Scripture memorization.

Do you need a healing verse to memorize today? Try Romans 8:6: “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace” (NIV).

Clean thoughts make clean habits.

@deathlyhorror, I salute you for having the courage to point out this societal ill in a time where no one seems to think there's anything wrong with it.

It has ruined far more lives, families and churches than we ever imagined.

Very true. Also it's a good thing to start praying, for maintaining a continuous conversation with God could really lift the weight of temptations that often come our way. And that being aware of God's presence helps us also to be aware of what we do.

There are two levels to any addiction. Demonic bondage. Jesus came to set at liberty the captive. 2nd crucifying the flesh.
With both of these there is a lifestyle and habit to change. One thing I love about front line ministry, we see people set free from this most every week.
Great, needful and timely post!
God bless!

Lovely write-up
We all need to have the holy spirit for us to be able to overcome temptation. Addiction is a very bad thing and it's from the devil. May the grace of God see us through to overcome every bad habits... Amen
