How To Be Humble | Make Jesus The Center of My LifesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #religion6 years ago

There is much advice flying around about how to be humble, but the true path to humility is following the Master of humility - make Jesus the center of my life.

When you submit to God in His most profound command to love His Son, Jesus Christ, you will find many doors opened to you including living your life in a way that is serving to God and others with humility.

Pride is a terrible and dangerous thing that can turn us into self-centered jerks oftentimes not very liked or respected by others even if they don't voice their disdain.

Pride is also the reason so many turn away from Jesus and believe they are better off on their own - how lonely is this existence to be so far apart from God?

The Necessity of Practicing Humility
1 Timothy 4:7-8

7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Discipline yourself for the purpose of Godliness and always with humility exercise your faith.

"No one is naturally humble, but pride comes to us as easily as sleeping or smiling...just as pride comes so naturally so does arrogance. Humilities opposite is arrogance, not pride. Though the virtue of humility is occasionally praised in remote acknowledgments, the reality of our fame addled and power hungry existence today means that arrogance is rewarded and humility is ignored." (David Bob)

You cannot effectively minister for Christ and ignore humility.

Jesus said, if you follow me, the first order of business is to deny the self.

The self dies a slow death and knowledge works against you, puffing up in arrogance.

Self denying humility is essential and necessary to grow in faith.

Be A Servant To God and To Others
Mark 10:42-45

42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.

43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:

44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.

45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Don't expect to be served like everyone else and always consider the plank in your own eye before pointing out the speck in your brethrens.

Philippians 2:3

3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Be humble enough to study the Bible, to pray on your knees and to give encouraging comments to your spouse, your children and your parents.

God has a way of bringing you down to size and curbing your need for self-centeredness so that you look out for the interests of others.

Forget yourself long enough to help others get ahead.

This is what Jesus did for us by coming down from heaven to be among us and to be scorned and to die in atonement for our misdeeds that we would be saved.

Forgiving someone for their issues against you is an act in humility.

Being a comfort to someone who is distressed is an act of humility.

Be An Example As A Servant of Christ
1 Peter 5:1-4

1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

We don't really understand the dangers of pride and arrogance or the power in humility.

Pride is behind all lack of love, all indifference to the needs of others and their feelings and their weaknesses.

Pride is the source of all hasty and critical judgments, all manifestations of temper, all touchiness and irritation and all feelings of bitterness and unforgiveness.

The place to be humble is in your mind and your heart, but not worn on your sleeve.

God has called us to be bold and courageous in Christ, but that doesn't mean to be obnoxious, walk over other people and to hurt others.

We are nothing in ourselves apart from Christ, but with Him we can do anything, even learn to be humble.

Ephesians 3:12

12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

Ask God to use you to help someone else and to make you into an example of a servant of Christ.

Hebrews 4:15-16

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Give the Glory to God
Anything we are able to do is not of our own abilities and knowledge, but what it is that Christ is doing through us.

Isaiah 14:12-15

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

When we lift ourselves up by being self-centered with all kinds of I statements like the devil, God is fully capable of bringing us back low in its due season.

Remember to give the glory to God for everything good that is going on in your life.

To show your gratitude for what God's goodness has done for you go out and be a blessing to someone else.

Then you will be exercising in true Godly humility.

Don't think that your talent should give you something, but remember that character is essential.

If you wait for God's perfect timing, then your blessings will come when you are ready to be accepting in Godly humility giving God the glory.

Seek to Be Pleasing to God
Hebrews 11:6

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

If you diligently seek God in humility, your reward is on the way.

Get up every day and ask God what can you do for Him.

James 4:6

6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

It is by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit working in you that empowers you to be a gracious light to the world.

Every day you can have an empowering attitude where Christ is the center and this will keep you humble.

1 Peter 5:5

5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

Pray to God to put away your pride and humble you.

If you feel this idea of being humble is beyond your reach, just remember that you can do nothing and you are nothing without God and God wants you to make Jesus the center of your life.

Do not desire anything - power, riches or fame, that you cannot handle in humility and still make Jesus the center of your life.

True humility is knowing what you are not, but also knowing who you are in Christ.

Forgiveness of those who have hurt you is one of the most humble things you can do.
