Harden Not Your Hearts
12 Were they ashamed when they had committed
abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed,
neither could they blush: therefore shall they
fall among them that fall: in the time of their
visitation they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.
An abomination is something that causes disgust, horror or hatred. Words with similar meaning are outrage, disgrace, evil, crime and anathema. God was talking about the Israelites' depraved worship of baal, asherah and other obscene Canaanite gods and He found they were not ashamed of their actions.
Christians are washed by the blood of Jesus and, thankfully, aren't usually guilty of disgusting or outrageous actions. But they do sometimes turn away from God.
Hebrews 3:12-15
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you
an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the
living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called
To day; lest any of you be hardened through the
deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold
the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the
end;
15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his
voice, harden not your hearts, as in the
provocation.
When believers harden their hearts toward God, He considers them to have 'an evil heart of unbelief.' We can avoid this by listening to God and to other believers when they speak into our lives. You may ask how believers can become cold and distant from God, but all Christians must daily fight sin and hypocricy to prevent these things from taking root in their lives. If you have turned from God, ask Him to forgive you today.

Harden not thy heart. A hardened heart only draws farther from God. Lets us always find a way to retrace our steps back to God if at all we stray by mistake.

From my study,I think the scripture here refers to "UNBELIEVING BELIEVERS", not "UNBELIEVERS".
Reason:- You don't depart from what you were never part of,hence my thought.

Thanks for sharing the book of Hebrews chapter 3:12-15. I will write these verses in my notebook where I keep my favorite Bible verses. Not believing in God is like being spiritually dead, and no matter what happens it is always important to be steadfast, and not fall into the path of iniquity.

During the time of the "Great Tribulation" The Jewish people will embrace the false Messiah (the Antichrist) until the abomination (his idolatrous image) causes desolation (the true worshipers of God to flee).
Idol worship is not only breaking God's commandment but a stench unto God's nostrils - an abomination.
we must try to have hearts who are humble so that we can listen to what God says to our lives, for something God looks afar off at the haughty. let's meditate a little on this. very good article @deathlyhorror
Humility is a key virtue. It takes a humble heart to admit when you are wrong and repent and ask for forgiveness.
If you have much reason, pornesomes that one of the things that causes us more problems in life ends up giving pride, it is incredible that many people give more power to pride than to another feeling.
Father in heaven, please forgive me for being childish most times. Forgive all the times that I have harden my heart to your words. I promise to be willing to answer your call, this I pray..Amen!
