5 Ways to Recover From Poor Life Choices
We have all made some bad decisions and poor life choices at times and we can end up being a prisoner to these mistakes, especially when we knew better, but made the poor choice anyhow.
Making poor choices is a part of life, but you do not need to be defined by your poor life choices.
You can choose to release yourself from a bad choice by knowing that we are not the sum of our choices and we have great relief by repenting and asking for forgiveness.
5 Ways to Recover
When you have made poor choices:
1 Take Full Responsibility
Do not blame others for your poor choices, but take responsibility for messing up. If your poor choice allowed someone to victimize you make sure you are out of that situation and try to forgive - this could take time.
1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Genesis 3:12
12 Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to bewith me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
Do you want to be like Adam and pass the buck or own up to your poor choice and repent?
2 Understand Why You Made a Poor Choice
There were probably some things about your upbringing or other reasons that could have contributed or been a major cause of your poor choice.
This is a major reason why it is not good to judge others because we do not know what they have been through that has lead to a bad lifestyle or poor countenance.
Get a hold of why you have made a poor choice or why you continue to make poor choices for your life.
You may need professional counseling if your history is full of abuse. I recommend FaithfulCounseling.com – Professional mental health counseling from a Biblical perspective if you feel you need professional help to escape a cycle of pain.
3 Apologize and Explain
God is a sufficient healer and you can get forgiveness from anyone who your poor decisions have affected.
Repent and get forgiveness and restoration from God.
James 5:16
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
4 Receive Grace
Do not continue to live in a prison of condemnation for your past.
God wants to help you get yourself out of the circumstance of your poor decisions and move on to use you for great things.
Everyone who God used in the Bible had some issue, but God loved them and gave them purpose and understanding and made them great.
Accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior can bring you great changes to your life away from poor choices and towards the Lord of hope, peace, love and joy.
5 Seek God
If you seek guidance from God you can avoid making continued poor choices.
Seek His Word in your daily life for the unfailing wisdom that will change your life for the sweet reward of His blessings.
Seek Him in prayer and praise Him and give Him thanksgiving for the saving grace of His Son, Jesus Christ.
The Strayed Sheep
Prodigal - wastefully or recklessly extravagant
We live extravagantly and waste the resources given to us by God because we have it a mind that we have a better plan for our lives than God has for our lives.
Luke 15:1-2
1 Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.
2 And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.”
If everyone in your Church's congregation is living in sanctification then your Church is ineffective in calling sinners to the Gospel message.
There are many people who are not where you are, haven't been to Church, but they have made the decision to come to Church and the Gospel should be presented in a way to bring them closer to Jesus.
Jesus values sinners and will leave the saved sheep and will go and save the one sheep that is lost and strayed.
When something in your life is valuable to you, you will treat it with high regard.

The Prodigal Son
Luke 15:11-16
11 Then He said: “A certain man had two sons.
12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood.
13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.
14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want.
15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything.
The pig food became appetizing to the prodigal son because his situation that he made for himself brought him to a low place. His appetite got conditioned to the pods of the pig.
If you want to let go of your bad choices and be elevated by God your appetites need to change. If you are abused and cheated you need to change your expectations for yourself to be in alignment with God's will for your life.
If you are going to go where God wants you, you have to be disciplined in your choices to accommodate what God has planned for you.
The choices for your life should be in accordance to your resources so that those resources are not squandered like the prodigal son.
God may not bless you with prosperity if you are not in a place to be able to handle that prosperity in a way that does not squander the resources.
Recovering From Poor Life Choices
The enemy will not torment you one moment more for your poor choices when you realize God deals with people who make bad choices all the time and does extraordinary things through them.
Paul the Apostle and Moses were both murderers, yet God moved in their lives and made them to be much more than the result of their poor decisions.
Colossians 1:29
29 To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.
God made profound changes in Paul and He can work through you also mightily in spite of your mistakes.
Do not let the enemy beat you down for your past when God wants to use you to the extreme for the maximum benefit of others and the glory of God.

The Outcome for The Prodigal Son
Luke 15:17-19
17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,
19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’
The prodigal son took responsibility for his situation and understood why he was in a poor state of affairs - that he had sinned leading to a poor circumstance.
Luke 15:20-21
20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
The prodigal son apologized and explained to his Father that he sinned and was unworthy.
Luke 15:22-24
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.
23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;
24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.
The prodigal son received grace and was again close to his father. The elder son became angry because he had been faithful to his father for all the years, but the father corrects him and says...
Luke 15:32
32 It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.
If you are lost and need to be found by Jesus consider the following prayer to accept Jesus into your life...
Dear Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, I believe you died for my sins and I believe you are risen from the dead, forgive me for my sins, come into my life and make me new, I surrender my life to you and I receive you as my Lord and my Savior, take my life and make it yours, thank you for your love. In Jesus’ Great Name Amen.

They're not poor life choices. They're sins. And the consequences of sin can last a lifetime.
