In its literal sense, Heaven is the tension of the stars, the moon, the sun and the planets around the earth. Heaven in the religious sense is also referred to as Paradise.

The Heaven

It is the place where you will come true according to the different religions if you have had a good life. What that good life implies is different in religion, but the most similar virtue is charity. In heaven you are forever happy. There are angels, archangels, gods and goddesses living. Paradise means in the ancient Persian 'fenced garden'. The Greek word of Paradise is Peri (around) teichos (a wall). The Jews use the word paradise in the Old Testament as the "Garden of Eden."
It would have been the residence of the first human couple Adam and Eve.

In the Qur'an, paradise is especially important because the believer sees the face of Allah and will be thanked by him for his good deeds. Paradise is therefore the highest place of the seven heavens. That you do not come here simply shows the interrogation by two angels, Moenkar and Nakier, in the chest where the dead are buried. The believer should express the faithfulness (sjahadaa) and then be on the list to get to Paradise. Some philosophers and theologians, but also paranormal viewers, assume that heaven is a higher dimension we can not perceive or imagine. That higher dimension would include the whole cosmos. In our dreams and near-death experiences we can visit these places, but once we are aware of our existence, we return to the earth where everything is contained in matter.

Hell is in our view the most dreaded place to end after your death. It is the place (geographically unpredictable) where the souls of deceased remain who have led a criminal and bad life.

The Hell

According to the Catholics, in hell is the purgatory. This is a place in the afterlife where you end up being punished when you have committed many sins in your life. After you have been refined (purified) by the fire you can still go to heaven.

According to Greek mythology, the dead kingdom lies in the center of the earth. His king, Hades, has the same name. Charon, the vicar who brings the souls of the dead over the Styx (the river leading to the empire) asks for a feast that must be laid under the tongue of the dead. Whoever does not have the coin will wander forever along the banks. The soul that the vendor can pay will be pushed by him into a boat to the Hades.
