Relationships

At the foot of most romantic relationships is a certain rebellion that is set alight by questions: Have I dealt my last hand? Is she/he the best I can get? Am I off the market?
.
.
Usually, the thinking is that, on any given morning, we could be walking down the street or attending church, and we meet the most amazing person ever. What then do we do with the pact we entered into just the night before!
.
.
So we think we should wait… just a little longer. Yet, there’s always a chance that we have let the best person for us go. And we’ll never get them back.
.
.
Nor does the rebellion end when we consummate. Go feel the pulse of a wife who knows that her brand-new husband is still keeping ties with his ex, or vise versa. Yes. We can get a spouse, and still feel frightened to let go of our ex.
.
.
Following this line of thought, should we talk about the rate of divorce? Let’s not bother. Worst case scenario is when who we seek is neither here nor there. Neither the spouse, nor the ex.
.
.
We’ve come far along a timeline that had parents picking spouses for their children behind us, and the possibility of computer algorithms doing the picking ahead of us. Right now, we’re here… where we do the picking ourselves. And it’s hard.
.
.
Indeed, computers might kill all rebellion; when it tells you categorically clearly that, out of the 11,372,501.6 fair-complexioned girls under 30 in West Africa, only Ifeoma will live reasonably happily with you throughout your lifetime, will you jettison such a perfect and comprehensive verdict?
.
.
Facebook already attempts that by the way; friend suggestions in your timeline, and you’re scrolling through in search of that smile that would rock your world. Only thing that gets to be in your way is either make-up, or a false representation of affluence. When things aren’t what they seem…
.
Technology would save us money too, for we won’t have to go on dinner dates with every potential mate in trying to get to know them. It’s them, it’s them. The computer said so!
.
.
While all that is farfetched, here is what I’m hoping: that that super computer, when it comes, would validate Ayo’s choice last weekend and Val’s this. I mean, would the computer, after spewing algorithms, say to Ayo and Valentine, “On point, guys!” Or would it say, “Oh no! You should have kept searching!”
.
.
I am no computer, but I think they sought found right. And I wish them all the best.
