Maintaining Relationship
There is no good or enduring relationship that is stagnant. It either grows or withers with time. For it to grow, it has to be fed regularly through communication or one kind or another.
No doubt, it is more difficult to maintain a relationship than cultivating it. Sometimes, it is even better not to be friendly with a person in the first instance than establishing a relationship that cannot be sustained for long. Strained relationships in some circles could foreclose the possibility of further mutual benefits between the parties (especially if one or both of them are unforgiving).
To avoid such an ugly situation, it is necessary to maintain a relationship. Even if it must go sour, let it not be from your end, you shouldn't be the cause. It may be helpful to practice the following in order to nurture and maintain a relationship :
Learn about the person to be able to relate well with him or her
Treat him specially and with respect
Let the person know you care for him or her. Show concern about what is affecting him or her.
Be accessible to and patient with him or her
From time to time, ensure to give him or her a call, if he or she calls but it's not possible to answer at that time, return the call later unfailingly
Avoid frowning. Rather, smile while talking. Lack of smile may constitute a major barrier in a friendship between two people. It should therefore, be freely given; after all, a smile costs nothing. Yet, it may make your friend's day. It works beyond words.
A great relationship is all about two things. First, appreciating the similarities, and second, respecting the differences

unless in a situation where both trust each other because sometimes I prefer telling my GF I trust her than to tell her I love her.
