Daily bible reading: Serve the LORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling, Psalm 2:11
The book of psalms tells us about one of the most perfect virtues in man, the worship of God or contemplative activity: Serve the LORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling, Psalm 2:11.
The creator of the universe is not a God prone to anger who punishes men for their disobedience, but a wise creator who directs creation with providence and good love. Neither is he a God who depends on the performance of rites and sacrifices, but a God who takes pleasure in the mercy of men: "For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.", Hosea 6:6. It is a mistake to perceive God from our own imperfections. God is a friend of men and transmits his essence, his wisdom, to those who seek him: "Come near to God and he will come near to you", James 4:8. Men are responsible for their sins and must pay for them: "But you iniquities have separated you from God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear", Isaiah 59:2.
Theology explains to us that God is the greatest perfection, that is why wisdom corresponds to God; to speak of wisdom is to speak of God explains Thomas Aquinas. We cannot attribute imperfections to God such as error, sin, passions, or love. About God Tomas Aquinas explains to us, "God is love without passion". Love is a gender, not all love is good: For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil", 1 Timothy 6:10. In addition, the uniqueness of God requires that there be no passions in God, because there would be two wills, one for reason and the other for passion.
The spiritual gift of fear of the Lord is constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, stability. Serve the Lord with reverent fear means to worship the wisdom with devotion, with firmness, with constancy. The worship of wisdom has another name: eternal life.
