It's sad that backpackers, senior citizen and half-broke international students, displaced migrants, global nomads etc, get to suffer from these regulation... I think they are after the "bigger fish" so to speak...

Time will show. They have dug their own grave. Nobody will stay in limbo for 90 days, businesses, private citizens are using the SEPA/BIC systems right now to move all their liquid assets out of Europe along with themselves. Europe is left to itself and the incompetent leaders who are no longer getting a hint of what to do next. We will see.
Hmm... So where are you proposing this wave of E.U.-emigrants will settle, it's not like the rest of the world is such a fantastic place right now?
I guess the US and Canada could be interesting, but still they have their problems too... New Zealand? Dubai? Japan?
