Good afternoon appreciated Reggaestemers happy Sunday here in Venezuela enjoying a slightly rainy and pleasant climate today I am inspired to write about the Rastrafari philosophy since this goes beyond a fashion driven by the reagge music, whose main exponent was Bob Marley, the Rastafarianism It is a cult tradition with well-defined beliefs.

Haile regained the throne in 1941, when British troops with the help of the Ethiopian resistance took Addis Ababa (the capital of Ethiopia). His government continued until 1974, at which time the lack and lack of political evolution would result in a coup d'etat. Haile Selassie would be arrested at his own home until his death was announced in 1975. The causes have not yet been clarified. although Selassie was really just a devout Christian. For the Rasta movement this man is the Messiah for them and still lives
His remains since 2000 rest in the Trinity Cathedral of Addis.

Rasta culture has the belief that Jah is the abbreviated form of the name of God Yahweh in the Hebrew scriptures, according to his theory God has had three incarnations: Melchizedek, Jesus Christ, and finally Haile Selassie I being considered his savior.

All this theory starts from a prophecy made by: Marcus Garvey that expresses the following:
"Look at Africa, where a black king will be crowned, because the day of liberation is approaching."
This is the prophecy that started it all

Garvey was a Jamaican activist who fought for political and social change on the island that had long been involved in slavery.

It is not entirely clear if the "black king" Garvey was referring to was a real person. or maybe it was a symbolic figure.

But when news of the coronation of Haile Selassie in 1930 in Jamaica spread, many of Garvey's followers made an association that seemed logical to them.

Ras Tafari was the king, so liberation day was near. This meant that they should prepare for an exodus to Africa.

On April 21, 1966, 36 years after his coronation, he visited Jamaica, noting that the enthusiasm of the Rastafarians was still intact, as he finally knows the Rastafari Movement. At the time of his arrival he was received as a god.
At that time there was a new generation of Rastafarians, many of whom still retained the idea of that exodus to Africa.

Selassie felt overwhelmed by the euphoric reception, and did nothing to disperse beliefs about his divine status.

At this time, Garvey had already died, and his criticisms of Selassie for leaving the country in times of war had been forgotten in Jamaica.
Among the crowd that showed up to honor their redeemer was the wife of a 21-year-old Jamaican musician, who had just formed a band called The Wailers.
His name was Robert Nesta Marley.

Bob Marley was considered the most influential rastafarian in history.
He never identified himself as a prophet, although his songs had this tone his followers treated him as a leader although he never proclaimed himself as such.
Black youth began to imitate Marley. They wore their hair and used what they called and wore clothes in the colors of the Ethiopian flag: green, yellow, red, and usually some black.

many began to be attracted to a different theology that incorporated a criticism or political protest.

In conclusion the rastrafari movement is based on a diversity of Beliefs and strengthened in many
ideological and philosophical currents.
A noteworthy fact that I could notice is that all this belief originates from a prophecy that is fulfilled in a certain way, there is a vision that freedom is near because Selassie is their savior, and that they could thus get out of poverty and emigrate to Africa, in fact, Selassie donated 200 hectares of land to members of the Rastafarian movement and settlers from Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean so they could settle in Africa. The community still exists today.
When Tafari dies, he creates great shock in his tribe so to speak, and many interpretations arose as a result, Selassie's bodily death was only a sign that Jah was not only a human being, but also a spirit.

Well Dear friends until a new opportunity ..

Good that you mentioned this:
"...At this time, Garvey had already died, and his criticisms of Selassie for leaving the country in times of war had been forgotten in Jamaica.."
And this is probably it:
"It is not entirely clear if the "black king" Garvey was referring to was a real person. or maybe it was a symbolic figure."
Garvey called Selassie " a cowardish lion" for fleeing to London! in the war against Italy...King of all Kings???
Ras Tafari means Natural Man... i love to live like that, but prophecies
that can not be questioned are always a trap.... like most religions...
Bless up
Greetings

I loved your definition, natural man of Rasta philosophy you have to read and be very analytical to not be deceived thanks for your comment friend ..
God bless you friend..

What a cool and informative post, @mariluna! Many thanks for sharing.

I'll give you a little suggestion, so you can make your posts look visually better:

  • If you add "---" in a single line, separated by two blank lines, it will create a nice separator like this:

If you separate the English and Spanish paragraphs like that, it will be much easier for your readers to absorb the information. Here's another one:
