Studying Propaganda Speak: Intro

in #red7 years ago

Here is an experiment on just how important it is to focus on what somebody is saying. What follows is a real quote and it's political so it's juicy. Nom nom nom. I will explain the statement below the quote and what is going on with it.

"Facebook and Google declined under repeated congressional questioning Tuesday to commit to stop taking Russian rubles and other foreign currency as payment for American political advertisements, despite federal election law prohibiting payments from foreign nationals."

Think about it for a second.....

This is what propaganda looks like and how it talks. Facebook and Google are doing NOTHING illegal, not even morally wrong in this case. The quote SAYS Facebook & Google are still taking Russian currency to pay for advertisements. Federal election laws apply to candidates and parties not private companies. That is the main FACT. Should there be a law? Let's have a discussion but even if it is sneaky to some of you, no law was broken. Nothing will happen. The article doesn't even suggest that the two corporations even broke the law to begin with, as to allow them to deny having ever said it in the first place. If you thought a law had been broken then you are a victim of this paragraph as that is exactly the point it does make but never says. This is a form of xenophobia, no different than comparing the Russians to Jews of WW2 in Nazi Germany. This quote was touted as to have the viewer believe that something illegal did occur that interfered with a Presidential election of our country on The Young Turks. An 'independent' news source founded $20 million by Democratic King Makers.
