Song of the day - Piano Sonata No. 14 in C♯ minor "Quasi una fantasia", Op.27 by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827)

in #recordpool6 years ago

Popularly known as "Sonata ao Luar" this work is a work of the best known works of the composer. With great representativity of the transition from the classical to the romantic period to the history of Western music.

His subtitle came after five years of Ludwig's death, by musician, critic and poet Heinrich Friedrich Ludwig Rellstab (1799 - 1860), who compared the first movement of the sonata whit the moon light from effluent Lake in Lucerne. And over the years it has been used in editions of the German and English publications of this Op. 27.

The first movement begins with a melody on the bass, accompanied by an ostinato present throughout the piece. It is written all in "pianissimo". That is, to be played very quietly, the point of greatest dynamic intensity is "piano", that is, silently.

Written in the form A-B-A, this movement we have a change of Beethoven in the organizational aspect of the sonatas in his time, and of his own works. In which usually the beginning music is written in the sonata form, with two themes, development and recapitulation. Here instead of proposition, the "adagio sostenuto" has a character of prelude, introductory, of something that is to come.

The second movement "Allegretto" is a scherzo and trio. A musical genre that has developed from the minuet retains the ternary compass and form (A B A) like the predecessor genre. Just as in the minuet, here the "Trio" is the second section,

In the tempestuous "Presto Agitato" we finally have the sonata form. Undoubtedly this is the movement that demands more skill on the part of the interpreter. The writing has many quick arpeggios, strongly accented notes and fast sequences. The sonata with a whole, in particular this piece is considered the work of inspiration for the "Fantaisie-Impromptu" by Frédéric Chopin (1810 - 1849), written in the same tonality and with a similar field of action.

Hope you like it
