Song of the day - Through The Barricades
I'm a big fan of music from the 80's. Probably because I was young and wild that time and I was ROCKIN' IT!! Guess I miss those days. But I can still do wild once in a way hehe!
My song of the day will be Through the Barricades by Spandau Ballet. This song will definitely be in my top ten list of the best songs from the 80's.
This song is kinda a Romeo & Juliet-style love story set in a troubled Northern Ireland. A boy and a girl, one a Catholic and one a Protestant, betray their families and their upbringing to meet on the bomb sites and the no-man's land between divided communities. The setting is given away by the drum and pipe marching music, so reminiscent of the parades mentioned in the second chorus. Like Shakespeare's play, there is a tragic ending. The "Hearts go to their graves," but it is not clear whether this refers metaphorically to the end of the affair or a suicide pact.
Basically it's about a boy trying to go through all the barricades in his way to be with his Juliet. We all have our own barricades in our life...or rather obstacles, that can get in the way of reaching the Juliet in our life i.e our dreams and goals. Barricades can come in many ways, it can even be our own barricades that we have inside of us. Things like self-doubt, lack of self confidence, low self esteem and other insecurities. I struggle with all of these issues in my life too. I'm still trying everyday to try to find a way to deal with them, but it's not easy. It's easy to say "Believe in Yourself!".... but it can be so difficult to do. It's not like we have a "Believe in Yourself" switch that you can turn on and you're done! All the negative emotions just vanish into thin air..poof and it's gone!! But that's far from fucking reality...and reality sucks!!
Ok sorry got a bit morbid there..but yeah I've got issues but I'm not ashamed of them. Sometimes you just got to accept your weakness and try your best to move on. Beating yourself about it is just gonna make things worse.
So I guess if you can't find a way Through the Barricades, try and find a way AROUND it.....yeah that's my two cents worth of advice I can give..well at least it's more than my upvote hehe
