Song of the Day - "Dedicated" by Funkdoobiest (Hip Hop/Rap)

You could be forgiven for not remembering Funkdoobiest back in the early 90s. As proteges of Cypress Hill, it's easy to see how some might have written them off as imitators despite the fact that DJ Muggs (and the rest of Cypress Hill) helped bring these cats up in the game.

Comprised of Son Doobie, Tomahawk Funk, and Dj Ralph M., these guys remain one of my favorites to listen to from the era despite my not being a huge fan of some of their topics. They blended conscious street rap with more humorous approaches to the libido (humor levels debatable depending upon your gender), and only put out two LPs in the 90s, with another late release in 2011 (which I have yet to listen to).

"Dedicated" is a good example of when Funkdoobiest is at their best, both musically and lyrically. Important issues brought to the forefront with the music just being perfectly laid back and mad jazzy.
