Audio Freeware Feature: Ostinato GranuLab (Win/Mac VSTi, Win standalone)
Apologies for the delay on this article, connection issues kept me from posting it yesterday, as I usually would.
As you might guess from the name, GranuLab is a granular synth/effect, available as a VST plug-in for Windows or Mac, or as a standalone (Windows-only) program. The standalone version is older and different from the VST version, but definitely still worth checking out. Note that the VST version is not "finished", though most things seem to work. See the website for details here.
The standalone version has been around for a long time, I've been using it myself since about 1997. It's great to see it getting updated to a VST version.
Standalone version
Both versions share the same basic parameters, which will be familiar if you've used granular synthesis before: playback rate & position, grain rate & length, etc., and in both versions these can be modulated with a random source or the input amplitude. The VST version adds other modulation sources as well, such as LFO's and envelopes. Both versions can also be controlled with MIDI.
The GranuLab patch system includes a slider to set how long it takes to change parameters from one patch to another, allowing for some cool morphing sounds. The standalone version also includes a "Patch Gesture" feature, which lets you use an X/Y controller with your mouse to morph between four patches. Gestures can be recorded and played back.

Besides the added modulation options, the VST version also includes some added effects: a dual SVF filter, a delay, and a bitcrusher. These effects are applied per-grain. There is also a waveform display in this version.

Not much else to say here, so I'll just leave you with a link so you can try GranuLab for yourself:
