BEST French Apple Pie Pull Apart Monkey Bread
This is a great twist on monkey bread...French Apple Pie monkey bread. Delicious flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, pecans, apples and raisins in a rich sticky caramel sauce. Topped with a white icing taking it over the edge! An easy, inexpensive, delicious and elegant dessert. Enjoy.
French Apple Pie Pull Apart Monkey Bread
2 cans large buttermilk biscuits
1 large granny smith apple - peeled and diced
1/4 cup raisins
1 cup sugar
2 tbsp Saigon cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp fresh grated nutmeg
1 cup roughly chopped pecans - optional
butter for pan
CARAMEL:
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
ICING:
1/2 cup butter
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Open and cut each biscuit into 4 equal pieces.
In a plastic bag add 1 cups of granulated sugar and spices.
Mix well in bag. Add biscuit pieces in batches. Give a good toss and make sure each piece is well coated with the spiced sugar mixture.
For the caramel sauce.
In a small sauce on low heat melt the stick of butter and brown sugar. Just make sure all is well dissolved and incorporated. Remove from heat. No need to boil.
In a large bowl add 1/4" square or smaller size chopped apple pieces, raisins and coated biscuit pieces. Give a gentle toss to make sure all is well mixed.
Coat bundt pan well with butter or oil spray. Add crushed pecans/nuts to the bottom - optional.
Add biscuit mixture to pan making sure all is well dispersed and gently packed in place.
Pour caramel sauce over the biscuits in a circular motion making sure the caramel melts or absorbs into the biscuits evenly.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until the biscuits are nice and flaky and done.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes.
Turn over onto a plate / platter. Drizzle icing on top.
