How to save on everyday living

in #recipes8 years ago

Good Morning Friends
Last year I bought a packet of Jam Tomato seeds. We sowed it and harvested baskets full of fruit. I made jams, chutneys, pastes, spaghetti, puree, sauces and sun dried quite a lot. Due to other responsibilities I neglected the vegetable garden for a while. To my great surprise and joy I was rewarded with a lot of Tomato seedlings growing again. I re did the whole procedure to bottle and preserve as much as possible. Yesterday I made a calculation of how much I saved the past year by not buying the above from shops. A unbelievable R2 300-00. It is definitely worth doing it yourself. Therefore I want to share a preserving recipe with you today.
But first, a few tips –
DOOM –
Spray on stained carpets and clothing. Leave for 30 min and wash with soap powder. Also work miracles if your vehicle obtained Tar stains. Spray and leave a few min, wipe off with a cloth.
BARBEQUE AROMA –
Impress everybody around the fire. Cut an onion, with skin and all, into thick slices. Place on top of the coals and let it burn. It gives an appetising aroma. The smell alone will make you hungry.
CHILLIES –
Use in all Curry- and Peri Peri dishes. A must have when cooking Chakalaka.
APPLE CHUTNEY –
1kg green Apples, pitted, peeled and grated, 2 cups Brown Sugar, ½ cup Orange juice, 5ml Ginger, 2 spoons crushed Garlic, 2 cups Brown Vinegar, 2 Spoons dried Chillies, Salt & Pepper.
Mix all together in a deep pot. Bring slowly to boil until Sugar has dissolved. Reduce heat and simmer until thick and saucy. It takes about 45 minutes. Put in sterilised glass jars with lids. Store in a cool dry place.
It is definitely economical, quick and easy to make.
Enjoy. Remember – ANYBODY CAN COOK!
