How To Make Homemade Healthier Dog Treats
I have always preferred making food from scratch and after years of feeding our 6-year old chocolate lab (whom I refer to as my baby girl) I actually looked at the ingredients on her treat boxes. I recognized maybe three; all the other ones were preservatives and words that I couldn't even pronounce.
1- cup whole wheat flour
2-cup regular flour
1/2-cup peanut butter
2-tbls oil (preferably light)
1-cup water
Mix all ingredients together (I usually use a whisk and get the two flours incorporated before adding the wet ingredients)
Roll out into about 1/4-inch thickness then use cookie cutter to make cookies.
In a 350-degree preheated oven, bake the cut-outs for approximately 20-25 or until hard (crunchy).
Makes approximately 2 1/2 dozen cookies
I used stars this time. I wanted to buy a dog bone shaped cookie cutter but the cheapest I have been able to find has been about $8 and honestly, baby girl don't care
This recipe has been sitting in my recipe folder for years, not sure where I found it, but it originally called for an egg too. I choose not to use the egg as then it would have to be refrigerated. Should last in an airtight glass container for about one week
