Self Driving Cars to Disrupt Self-Storage
A report in The Real Deal today released an article indicating that driver-less cars and the rise of ride sharing companies like Uber and Lyft can have a strong impact on Self -Storage facilities. According to the article, consumers in the future are likely to have less vehicles and therefore will be using their garage for storage, eliminating the need to pay for self-storage. Also, the Wall Street Journal say they believe that an increase in E-commerce will benefit from self driving cars and even claim that they will benefit commercial real estate as many large shopping centers will be less dependent on parking lots. They many even be able to convert parking spaces which creates zero income - into new buildings that can house retail stores, generating millions a year in additional revenue.
