Johannes Gutenberg made of sand in Budapest

in #reading6 years ago

Johannes Gutenberg is the famous blacksmith and goldsmith who introduced the printing press to Europe. He was born in year 1400 and died 68 years later. His work had a major impact on life, and without him, the reformation never could have taken place as one of the main goals of Martin Luther was to let every man read his own Bible.

But, enough about church history. Take a look at the following sand-statue of Johannes Gutenberg which I discovered on the Kopaszi dike in Budapest during a recent trip to this delightful and peaceful area of Budapest.

The sand-statue was surrounded by fences, but luckily I was tall enough to make a photo not so heavily disturbed by the fences in front of it.

I don't think I have seen such sand monuments before, so I at least enjoyed it. I guess it will be removed within shortly (a sand monument cannot survive well in rainy and windy weather), but if you are in the area, make sure to check if it is still there!

Happy traveling and have a wonderful day!
