F. Scott Fitzgerald is the best writer in the whole of history).
Perhaps I might have slightly exaggerated here lol. I do not know John Banville to be honest but I'm VERY MUCH looking forward to reading that article!!
Oooh, I love this. I wonder if you're gonna make a list for your favorite 1st line on novels...
Btw, my favorite lines lately:
"I beg you friend, be happy. I have the vague sense that on your capacity to be happy hangs our only hope." - Milan Kundera , Slowness
That's definitely a good idea! Haha who knows. And that's such an awesome line. I'm not very familiar with kundera, but I'm definitely adding him to my list!
Oh you chose some wonderful lines! And your descriptions of what they mean and why you chose them are perfect. There are so many great lines that it's hard to choose one. The one that popped into my mind immediately when I read this is“Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart.” – Anne Frank, The Diary Of Anne Frank Maybe because I need that one tonight.
Edith Wharton's Age of innocence:
"We can't behave like people in novels, though, can we?"
Omg that is so beautiful! Great choice!
I upvoted your post.
Keep steeming for a better tomorrow.

Much to admire, here, new friend (with the exception of this line, perhaps, F. Scott Fitzgerald is the best writer in the whole of history).
I hardly know where to begin with my favorite lines, but will recommend John Banville. If you're not aware of him, already, here's an appreciation.

Thanks for the kind words!

Don't we all!? It's such a beautiful line, especially coming from where it did. Thanks for the kind words, Melinda.
Cheers!
