Yes, very creative indeed. And it gets more creative the longer you read on.
Many people make the mistake of treating books and movies like one-way deals. As a way of having content just dumped into our brains. In my opinion, dealing with any kind of story-telling is a dialog, I "communicate" with the books, the stories and the characters as much as they are with me, in a sense.
What is this character doing, how is he interacting, what would I do in his stead, to give a very simple approach. Treating stories like that is very enriching and helps you to see things from different perspectives.
