Reading the Al-Quran in the grave of the dead.

****Assalamu'alaikum.wr.wb.****

This is the 5th night we read the Al-Quran in the grave of a villager who died a few days ago in age around 80 years of age.

Reading the Al-Quran in the grave of the dead is one of the things that is permissible in the religion of Islam to pray for the deceased who has passed away, This is also in accordance with the traditions of the people of Aceh that have existed from generation to generation as one of the activities to honor the deceased burden in dealing with problems in his new nature..

Although there are some people who consider this act totally useless to people who have died because they (the dead) have been cut off from the world, the opinion is very unfounded if we refer to a meaningful hadith of the Prophet:
"If a human being dies, then all the relationships related to the world are cut off, except those brought to death are only three cases, namely:

  1. Charity of goodness.
  2. Sadaqah Jariyah ...
  3. A pious child."

One that is brought to death is good deeds, if when he lives he does good deeds and obeys the commands of God, then when he dies he will enjoy the results of what he practices in the world with his good deeds.

Then if when his life uses his property to a path that is liked by Allah, and wants to waqf it in the way of Allah, then it will lighten his burden in the grave when he dies.

And lastly, if he has a pious child and always wants to pray for him, then this is an added value that makes him get relief when passing to the grave because the child will always pray to him ..

When a person does not leave a pious child, it means that he can also get a reward from a prayer read by a relative, friend or village resident who is willing to pray for him when he dies. the pray or read Al-Quran to him who is carried out by a person who is still alive, both directly and indirectly by aiming for the reward of to person who died.

One way that is done directly is to read the Al-Quran in its grave day and night without stopping ... but the custom that applies in the Acehnese community is prayed for seven days and seven nights by visiting a disaster house, as well as reading the Koran done for seven consecutive days and sometimes less than seven days ... this is certainly on request and depends on the ability of the deceased family ...

****Indeed, there are also those who do not direct the reading of the Al-Quran at the grave of the dead, but there is only an gift the pray at the house of the deceased by the villagers or people nearby.****

The recitation of the Al-Quran that we are doing now in the grave of the dead is the fifth night and the family of the deceased agreed to ask us to read it until the seventh night or in the Acehnese language known as the night seunujoh..

Reading the Al-Quran at the grave is not an easy matter because we are required to continuously read it non-stop and connect to each other until the specified deadline, both day and night we must always read the Al-Quran to pray for safety for the deceased.

During the day it may be more relaxed because it does not make us fall asleep like the night, night time is also full of risks if our bodies are not healthy enough to stay up or mentally we do not dare at any time to interfere with spirits in the burial area ...

But this must also be adjusted to pay from the families of the dead so that the readers of the Al-Quran are truly solemn and ready to face all possibilities.

Even so, there are still families of the dead who do not care about the situation faced by people who read the Al-Quran in the graves of their family members, this fact we experience when reading the Koran in this people's grave ... the family is not giving us food, not providing a fan, not providing insect repellent and so on ...

All of that was requested by us who prepared it themselves in our homes, even though the family of the dead asked us to pray for their families to get relief in their graves, while they treated us as they pleased without the slightest attention ...

We also regret that basically this deceased is a wealthy person and has a fortune of around Rp 7 billion (According to a family member close to us) ... The deceased who owns a luxury house in Jakarta has a business in furniture and even one of the gas stations in Aceh belongs to the deceased, but our situation in the grave is like not reading the Al-Quran in the graves of the rich ... because we have to prepare everything ourselves in our homes without the family of the deceased ... Even though people dead this does not leave the child and anyone, except his brothers ... and automatically all the wealth of the deceased is now transferred to his brother ..

We still do not mind it, the rich are still rich ... they certainly want to accumulate their wealth so as not to fall into poverty ... but it is very regrettable when he died instead did not bring the slightest of his wealth into the grave ...but all his wealth was enjoyed by his heirs. .

Thank you.

Wassalam..
