MC Lyte, eigentlich Lana Michele Moorer, (* 11. Oktober 1971 in Queens, New York City, New York) ist eine US-amerikanische Rapperin und Schauspielerin.

MC Lyte, alias Lana Michele Moorer ( October 11, 1971 in Queens, New York City, New York) is an American rapper and singer.*

Mitte der 1980er Jahre, einer Zeit, in der Hip-Hop ausschließlich von Männern dominiert wurde, entdeckte Lana Moorer ihr Rap-Talent. Mit nur zwölf Jahren nahm sie ihre erste Single I Cram to Understand U auf. Diese neue Art des Rap fand schnell Gehör. So wurde das Plattenlabel Priority Records, das Rapgrößen wie N.W.A, Master P, Ice Cube, Mack 10 und Snoop Dogg zu seinen Schützlingen zählte, auf Lyte aufmerksam.

Zusammen arbeiteten sie an dem Debütalbum Lyte as a Rock welches 1988 auf den Markt kam. Die Kombination von selbstbewussten, sozialkritischen Texten und ihrem außergewöhnlichen Talent verschaffte der New Yorkerin auch Anerkennung bei ihren männlichen Kollegen.

Mid-1980s, a time where Hip-Hop was dominated only by men, Lana Moorer discovered her rap talent. At the age of only twelve, she her first single I recorded cram to understand U. This new kind of rap quickly found hearing. So, the record label priority records, which was one of rap sizes such as N.W.A., master P, ice cube, Mack 10, Snoop Dogg, and his protégés, became aware on Lyte.

Together they worked on their debut album Lyte as a rock which came on the market in 1988. The combination of self-confident, socially critical texts and their exceptional talent gave the New Yorker also recognition by their male colleagues.
