The Bottom Line: Jimi Tents’ is hard evidence that the new crop of rapper isn't hurting Hip-Hop. They can only truly influence Hip-Hop if people open their ears.

Jimi Tents' debut album "I Can't Go Home" arrives.

It's been 18 months since we’ve heard from the Brooklynite Jimi Tents released his debut EP 5 O'Clock Shadow which contain the hit single “Landslide”. Now his new album I Can't Go Home is here

Jimi Tents‘ name is ringing bells in the hip-hop community and he’s giving us a brand new project to back his hype up. The Brooklyn native released his new I Can’t Go Home album for fans on his SoundCloud page, which dives deeper into the mind of the New York rapper. New York has the opportunity to birth some hometown talent; the same way Atlanta has been birthing talents such as the Migos, Playboi Carti, Lil Yachty. New York has gotten a lot of flak for not promoting hometown rappers until they have mainstream success. Tents’ shows a lot of versality and skill set with impeccable flows, beat selection, delivery. One of the best qualities Tents’ has is his delivery with voice that has a similar punch as Jay-Z. Yes, I compared Jimi Tents’ to Jay-Z and if Tents’ can link up producers the same way Jay-Z did (DJ Premier, Timbaland, Kanye, 9th Wonder). Without those guys Jay-Z doesn’t have the same success, and Tent’s enters a similar position.
In an interview with the Fader, Tents had this to say about the album and the track "Rick Rubin:"

"This album is for that person who has talent or something special about them, but is stuck in the daily routine of their life and feels unsure to take that leap in order to be successful. The overall goal is to go out and get it — it starts off somewhat aggressive, and moves through emotions like frustration, bliss, resentment, fear — all these different emotions — and “Rick Rubin” is like the focal point of the entire album. I wanted it to be the fun track, to represent the light at the end of the tunnel.
The 13-track project features all new music from the East New York MC and contains production from TheVamp, Rico Beats, Crystal Caines and Calez, along with guest features from Saba, Ro James and saidbysed. As far as content matter, things get personal for Tents, as the title of the LP represents what gentrification is doing to his beloved Brooklyn neighborhood, and speaks to how his own childhood home is no longer the one he knew from his earlier years.

The past couple of years have been huge for the potential 2017 XXL Freshman, and with the new album Tents’ should be on the cover of XXL this year. If he is not I will be writing an open letter to XXL about this travesty. Tents’ was recruited to be the opening act for Justin Bieber on his Purpose Tour, which saw him hitting arenas around the country, including Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center. He landed the gig following the success of his debut project 5 O’Clock Shadow, which contained his biggest single to date, “Landslide.”
