The Bottom Line: The beat is Fire, Drake’s singing is fire. The song leaves much to be desired

Once again DJ Khaled as provided us with another Drake Collab the two have been seemingly inseparable over the years we’ve seen the two get together for hit song about once a year ever since “I’m on One” with Lil Wayne and Rick Ross, which solidified Khaled’s place as a top producer. Then came “No New Friends,”. These two songs alone spark chants, and mottos across the world there was no shortage of people chanting No New Friends, or I’m on One. DJ Khaled album” Major Key”, Khaled and Drake joined forces on “For Free,” with Drake coming off the much anticipated “Views”. Both Moguls have spent over a decade building their brands and they often like to collude and create a monopoly on the top of the billboard charts.

Now I will start by saying I wasn’t a huge fan of this song the first time I heard it, but after a couple more times it grew on me. It’s rhythmic, and catchy, but overall this is a good. Now considering the hits Khaled and Drake have put out in the pass I would say this fell flat. The production is good, and vocals are good, but they aren’t good together. The first time you listen to the song you’ll be able to tell it’s forced. The two put together “To the Max,” a fittingly titled bassline rework about reaching the pinnacle and facing the consequences, drink in hand, Drake continues his pursuit of globalization while Khaled benefits from the expansion diversifying into UK club music (“More chune pon ya’ headtop,” he parrots giddily). Sampling T2 and Jodie’s “Heartbroken,” the song moves at a frenetic pace with Drake’s singsong flow slinking into its crevices. This is very important to keep in mind, because this music isn’t only meant to be heard in the United States. DJ Khaled and Drake have both been making music for the global scale, and ‘why not’ we listen to the music regardless. This song will see regular radio play, and be ingrained into our heads until we “love” it. In conclusion, Drake please do us a favor and take the year off.
