Big Boi Boomiverse Album Review

The Bottom Line: Big Boi shows us once again the South is in his DNA, and he will always be able to tap into that Southernplayalistic gene.

Big Boi doesn’t put out a lot of music these days, but when he does, the music is always jammin. When it comes to rappers who have been releasing music for 10+ years there tends to be 3 different types of rappers. First is the guy who raps about the “Good ol’ days”, and recycles old material. Second, is the guy who tries to fuse his style with what the younger generation likes to listen too. Thirdly, is the guy who keeps his same style and doesn’t change a thing. This category is where Big Boi happens to fall. This album could’ve just as easily been called Speakerboxx part 2. He’s still, for instance, looks to Organized Noize for most of his production, and all of the features are from veteran artists. Such as, Snoop Dogg celebrating “big money, big cars, big toys, makin’ big noise” on “Get Wit It”, or Killer Mike and Kurupt helping Big Boi bring low-rider menace to “Made Men”. Boomiverse will be slept as far as mainstream success goes similar to The God Box by David Banner, and Neva Left by Snoop Dogg. Thanks to the internet mainstream success is subjective.
