Okay, yo, in a previous post I talked about a potential way to let posts pay out indefinitely. You can read it here: [link].

I feel like that would make it so that posts could still get upvoted/resteemed over a longer period of time, so it would increase post visibility, because posts can be kind of hard to find on Steemit.

And whyyyy are they hard to find?

BECAUSE THE STEEMIT TAG SYSTEM IS BROKE AF, YO.

Seriously. 5 tags. FIVE TAGS, WHY IS THAT EVEN A THING????

That makes it really hard to make specific tags for the individual posts.

Like for example: Let’s say on deviantART, I draw... Oh, I don’t know, a comic about Sonic or something.

First, I would want a Sonic tag. Then I may want a SonicTheHedgehog tag in case there’s some other Sonic that could get mixed in with.

Easy fix, I know, those could both be the same tag. ASSUMING anybody else thinks to use SonicTheHedgehog instead of just Sonic. (The solution on other sites: show tags similar to the one you’re typing, to know what other people tag this stuff as).

Then of course, I’d want to tag it as a comic, because, well, it’s a comic. BUT YO. THEN I HAVE TO DECIDE, SHOULD I POST IT TO comic OR comics.

I’M NOT EVEN KIDDING. LOOK AT THIS.

THEY HAVE A SIMILAR NUMBER OF POSTS AND PAYOUTS, TOO. WTF.

This isn’t even just an issue with comics – it’s also true of the cat/cats tags, the car/cars tags, garden/gardening, INTRODUCEMYSELF/INTRODUCEYOURSELF..... do you see why people use a lot of tags yet???

ANYWAY, assuming I only post it to the comic tag, I’d then want to put it in the manga tag, since my stuff is usually rather manga-esuque.
Except here we have another issue, in that manga and anime are used interchangeably, so in order to make sure people see it, I may want to use the anime tag, too.

So far I have 4 tags already. One of my tags HAS to go to a popular tag group because it’s nearly impossible to get your post seen, otherwise – hence, I would post it to art, on account of it being a drawing.
BUT WAIT. That means I can’t use the painting tag, which is the really weird tag choice for the chainBB site, BUUUUT that means that I have to take out a tag so that it’ll appear in the Forums.

Normally, I’d take out the art tag, since art and painting are basically synonymous tags. But painting isn’t a popular tag, and I feel dumb for using it anyway since my picture isn’t a “painting” it’s an inked comic.

Seriously chainBB, that was a dumb tag choice.

ANYWAY

So, assuming I probably take out either the anime or manga tag, that leaves me with 5 tags.

Do you know how many tags I would have put on other websites?

Well
I probably would have tagged it doujin, since that’s what fan-comics are commonly called, then also doujinshi, because doujin is an abbreviation of doujinshi. I would have tagged it in ALL the sonic tags (sonic, SonicTheHedgehog, Sonic_The_Hedgehog, STH), then I would have tagged the specific series I was making a comic based on (ArchieSonic, SonicSatAM, AoSTH, SonicBoom, ect. There are a LOT of these, and that’s assuming I only pick ONE.)

Then I would have tagged all the characters involved, because some people like to see a specific character, and this would make it visible to them.

I would have tagged it manga, but maybe not anime because the anime/manga differenciasation is a bit stronger on other websites. I probably also would have tagged it B&W or Black_and_White or any of the other variations on that, because my comics are typically not in color.

Heck, I could go on to tag it in digitalart or digitalcomic or something, so it’d be more visible to people who are into those.

THAT PUTS ME ON AVERAGE OF AROUND 10 TAGS. THIS MAKES ME MUCH MORE VISIBLE ON OTHER WEBSITES.

I get it. You don't want people being able to spam the tags.

BUT THAT'S WHAT THE FLAG BUTTON IS FOR.

And comments. Just. Seriously, just tell the person they put it in the wrong tag, jeezus.

And the last (and most telling) difference between tags on Steemit and tags on other sites:
THE TAGS NEVER GO AWAY.

If somebody 10 years ago tagged something stupid like lsjljflksj, and you went on deviantART and searched lsjljflksj, you would find it.

Would you find that on Steemit? Nope. It says that those tags don’t exist.

Why is that?? I seriously don’t get it.

Seriously, why is it easier to find Steemit posts on GOOGLE than it is on Steemit.

YA GOT FLAWS, BUDDY.

And these flaws make it a PAIN IN THE BUTT to gain visibility, which, is why new users quit so quickly, and why we got SPAMMERS.

Because /how/ do you get attention on your post if it gets buried?

You make comments, get involved with people, get attention on popular posts.

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN SEEING A LOT OF LATELY??

COMMENT SPAM.

Seriously, the correlation between people advising newbies to make comments, and newbies making REALLY ANNOYING SPAM COMMENTS... I think it’s obvious.

If we let people make more tags and let the posts payout and get resteemed indefinitely, this kinda. Solves the issue, I think.
I mean, not totally. There are still people on other sites who do this, and it’s just as annoying there.
But it’s not as frequent.

Also – if we have more tags at our disposal, we can really make our posts REALLY SPECIFIC on the kind of content we make.
That. Is. How. You. Find. People. On. Other. Websites.

You find people with your very specific niches in common, and you geek out with that person over your mutual very specific niche.

Like. If I go on the Anime tag, half the stuff I see is anime reviews.

I DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANIME REVIEWS. I want to see people’s art!

And then I also DO NOT CARE ABOUT CERTAIN SHOWS. Like Dragon Ball, or... Fuck, just never talk to me about Attack on Titain, I will stab you.

But on other sites, I look at that tag expecting to see anime ART.

OH. BUT WAIT. WE CAN ONLY USE 5 TAGS, AND EVERY TAG COUNTS BECAUSE OUR POSTS ARE GONNA GET BURIED IN AN INSTANT.

You know, it’s not like other sites haven’t addressed this. Like on Tumblr? Yeah, only your first few tags appear on the search page.

So why still tag more than what’ll make it visible?

BECAUSE YOU CAN EDIT THE TUMBLR URL FROM “search” TO “tagged”. AND IT’LL SHOW +E+V+E+R+Y+T+H+I+N+G.

On deviantART, groups are separate from individual accounts. You can make a group, it basically looks like an account, except it only has posts from other accounts, and you access it through your main account.

The current Steemit equivalent would be if somebody made an alt account and only Resteemed stuff. VERY SPECIFIC NICHE STUFF.

But making a new account is, to my understanding, A HUGE PAIN??? Like

I know you can BUY a new account. But what’s this bullshit about needing a phone number to open a new account?

Does that prevent me from making alt accounts? I haven’t tried it yet, honestly.

PEOPLE ARE MAKING ALT ACCOUNTS ANYWAY, GUYS. JUST INTEGRATE IT INTO THE SYSTEM SO THAT PEOPLE CAN JUST HAVE ACCESS TO IT AND USE THE ALT ACCOUNTS FOR WHATEVER THEY WANT.

Okay, I’m a grown-ass adult. I look at NSFW content, okay, I’m not even gonna lie.
But the shit on Steemit’s NSFW tag AIN’T WHAT I WANNA LOOK AT, K. We should have more tags, AGAIN, for more specific niche stuff, AND HAVE MORE THAN JUST THE NSFW TAG BE BLOCKABLE.

Honestly, we should be able to block any tag. At all. Whatever we want. Shouldn’t even have to be NSFW. I should be able to block, I dunno, politics and religion and stuff like that. OTHER stuff that people don’t wanna see.

And some of the NSFW stuff isn’t even because it’s porn or whatever. Sometimes it’s just nudity, or violence. WHY AREN’T THOSE SEPARATE BLOCKABLE TAGS??? HMMMMM???????????????????
