See! This is why I and others stopped posting on Steem!
Now before I start ranting and raving I fully accept I'm not in the same league as @papa-pepper in fact we are probably not even on the same planet in terms of community stature and level of output. I just wanted to make that clear before anyone starts saying: "Oh come on Pete, you're not comparing like for like."
So you think you're being shafted by @ned along with @justinsunsteemit and the flame war currently raging? Steemit (IMO) has been shafting users for ages. A lot (Not all) of what I post is top quality, I'm not some twat posting crappy Dtube videos of a donkey farting a rainbow and ten million nodding dogs upvoting it. It's content that takes a couple of hours to produce, formatted and designed to gain some traction and yet the rewards have been on the whole pitiful, to say the least. I came back to Steemit (Steem) after a few comments on Twitter and lobbed a couple of pebbles into the lake just to see how many ripples it created. As per usual my mate @steevc has been kind enough to vote and comment on everything I've done so when I looked at my Blog on Steem this morning I was pretty pissed, to be honest.
So I'm 82 votes behind papa-pepper which isn't much, 1 comment behind and a whopping $14.37 adrift! These witnesses that are begging you to vote for them want to ensure low earners like me earn even less! I've seen others in the community say it and I'm sorry but I have to agree. There's something rotten here and I certainly don't see much fairness going on. Now I already know the answer I'm going to be given on this one: "Pete mate, sadly the people who voted for you have piss poor voting power." well I'm sorry, that's not good enough. IMV if you want to be a Witness you need to start looking after the users and not just a small circle of top earners. The Next fork that happens, start making changes that anything over 200 votes earns a bonus or something do something to make new people want to use the platform instead of raping my CPU cycles to Mine Steem for others benefits.
Maybe Justin should take over, that way the rewards might start to be distributed a bit more fairly? After Justin has had his cut obviously.

I just use steemit as a journal for my thoughts and don’t think much of it I do get the odd reward here and there but I’m never going to be big! I’m not party of any communities I just sort of banter and hopefully some people reach out! Was never about the rewards for me, lol that’s what my BTC and other alts are for
You're probably right and I admire you for that attitude. @steevc invited me to join because back in the day I was pretty prolific with my output. I too started out with "Well, I'm posting stuff all the time so..." the problem is when you start focusing solely on Steemit for your content your personal websites (I have a few) start to suffer from lack of content. Now that's fine if you're getting something in return for Putting all your eggs in one basket sadly, I don't feel I'm getting a good enough return on ignoring my other commitments. If that changed I'd stop whining. LOL
You're right @dickturbin. It's a tough pill to swallow. Especially putting your heart and soul in a post only to get rewarded just pennies.
But as @bozz alluded to sometimes it's who you know. I think that sounds cliche but it's true. And it is what it is.
I know I have felt your frustration many times. My posts are hit or miss and it's god awful frustrating sometimes :(

I'd love to be proved wrong but three years down the line with 2090 posts under my belt a Rep that's only 58 (I've seen people leap into the '70s after just a few months) and $19 in my account I have to say I feel justified in bitching like a four-year-old. LOL
@dickturpin can I ask you something...how much have you commented on other Steemians' Blogs. Alot ?? Moderately ?? Not much at all ?? Because a rep of 58 just does not make sense with your credentials and the years you have put in here. It should at least be 65 or more. Something does not add up. That's the main way I gained a Rep and some Upvotes from bigger peeps is by a lot of good, quality commenting

Maybe I could be wrong. But I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt an abundance of good, quality Commenting on other steemians' blogs has helped me tremendously in gaining traction on this platform. I bet @bozz and @steevc would agree
I think I'd need to be unemployed to spend that amount of time commenting on that amount of content. I tend to comment on good quality stuff rather than just commenting for the sake of it. I also do a hell of a lot of resteems lots of times without even making a comment so I wouldn't exactly say I am or was a bad community member? Maybe you're right. As per usual, it's all my fault? At least, that's what the wife tells me most days. LOL
Don't we all think our content is top notch though? :) I am kidding of course. I am right there with you. It really sucks when you dump your whole being into something and it gets hardly any recognition. It all comes down to getting the right people to follow you I guess. In the end it is always about who you know. It's too bad more of us consistent creators can't get the love we deserve.
I agree although if something is not very good I'm happy to acknowledge that. If it is really bad I won't even post it which is why I never posted that often.

What are they witnessing for them? I like Steem, Steemit, that thing that gives you money for posting. I don't disagree with you. It is true, as much as getting the right people to follow you shouldn't matter, we all know it does. At least those of us who have been around here for a while. Just when I think I have made a pretty good name for myself in this place and I think that I at least have name recognition among most of the community something happens that leads me to question that. I guess my thing is, if those who abuse and spam the platform can so easily gain notoriety, why is it so difficult for those who are actually involved (growing their stake and putting out at least four quality posts a week)?

Everyone keeps telling me the point of Steem isn't to make money? I'm so confused. 🤣
Honestly, the main reason I'm here is that I've seen too many blogs disappear when they were banned or when platforms closed down. I used to host my own blog, but that was a bit lonely. Steem seems to work better than federated systems like Mastodon, although I haven't tried those. With a chance to make some money as a bonus. I spent way more than I earned here on flying to Steemfest 2 in Lisbon, but I wouldn't have met Steve otherwise.
One thing that could be improved is that resteeming should be rewarded (and voting shouldn't if you ask me). Most people probably don't even notice when you resteem them. I used to be on Tumblr, and I'm a little disappointed that reblogging isn't as popular here or on Twitter.
I actually post more often on Twitter than on Steem. Somehow, the blog post format gives me a mental block against shitposting.
Posting and replying every day seems to be rule #1 for becoming a social media influencer. It's a job. In the future, no one will be able to go on holiday for fun, because all accommodation will be booked a year in advance by Instagram models. Normal people will take a self-driving Uber to work, while a handful of streamers will race a different sports car every day. In other words, we will live vicariously through people who consume as a full-time job.
Anyway, thanks to permissionless innovation, Steem is now mainly a games platform, just like the other Steam. Valve should sue Steemit for copyright infringement.
First off, thanks for the comprehensive, intelligent and reasoned reply.
I've written copious amounts over the years, most of it lost in the mists of time and websites being taken down. At the time I joined Steem(it) I was probably at the end of my avalanche of outpourings which were mostly related to Linux and Open Source but when @steevc pointed out "You write a lot of stuff, wouldn't it be great if you were being paid for it?" my capitalist leanings jumped at membership.
I have to say, my favourite platform was Google+ so Steem seemed like a good alternative when G+ became defunct. Initially, I was really happy with Steemit I kinda 'got it' that my rewards were low due to my "New kid on the block" status and at that stage, the money didn't bother me. After a while though, and struggling to live up to this mantra of "Quality Content" I started to see people posting incredibly immature Memes and videos and earning absolute fortunes from it. I listened to the advice from my peers and guarded my votes with an iron fist in the belief these were honours to only be bestowed on deserving people. Then, as an example, the likes of @sweetsssj came along with her titted bikini and her reviews of the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok which the hotel paid her to do. (I'm making that specific review up by the way. I've no idea if she has actually been there?) and she started hoovering up the votes like no tomorrow. I did some checks (Back then) and found she was huge on other Social Media platforms especially in China and it was clear she just saw Steem as yet another revenue stream for herself. As it turns out, I was right about that bitch (Yep Bitch) Just found this. Seems like Ned was doing dirty tricks back in 2017?
Sorry about that got my hackles up again. I'm still disenchanted with Steem I think too many people view it with rose-tinted glasses and the only ones that are truly happy are the ones pulling $60 to $70 a post let alone the ones in the hundreds and therein lies the problem (With me) at one point my account was worth $3000 odd and I naively thought "Hmm, there might be something to this getting paid for writing?" but as I've bitched boringly countless times I barely earn $5.00 my rep is poor and I've invested as much time a fully employed person can in the last three odd years. For me, and many others, the argument of "How much did you get paid for posting on Mastodon Pete?" doesn't hold any water. I'd far rather be popular and not get paid than work my guts out typing out an eight paragraph post for $1.27 and watch some arse-wipe post a Dtube video, I'll just repeat that, post a video! and get paid $150.00 for it. I work full time I can't spend all day every day trawling for other posts to upvote and comment on so my 'engagement' will always be based on Quality not Quantity
Let's not kid ourselves. It's all about the money otherwise we'd all be on MeWe or some other shiteposting site. #hugs
