NHS fell victim of a ransomware attack

The importance of being vigilant and security aware, especially at work

The National Health System in UK has been hit by a major cyber-attack, with hackers demanding a ransom to unencrypt NHS data. A few hospitals seem to have lost the use of phone lines and IT systems, with some diverting all but emergency patients elsewhere.

While the source of the attack is not yet confirmed I feel like stressing the importance of being extra vigilant when receiving emails as the most common way of getting a ransomware infection is by clicking a link or opening an attachment in a bogus email.

If you are not absolutely certain about the content or sender of an email simply do not click on any links or files attached and contact your IT Helpdesk at work for advice.
