After all the hassle of the last days it's just time for a little distraction today. And what could be better than to send your thoughts and your fantasy on a little trip?

Mokuhanga, the Japanese art of woodblock printmaking, flourished during the Edo period, when the multicolored Nishiki-e 錦絵 woodblock print enjoyed great popularity among citizens of all social classes and was a huge success since the prints became finally accessible and affordable to a wide audience.

Especially the lifestyle of the urban population was well reflected in the detailed woodcuts, ukiyo-e 浮世絵 the floating world lives on in countless prints, mirroring the sentimental mood of a time long gone.

Today a few first impressions of this stunning technique and tradition with impressions from Edo and the area around, which are from the Fine Prints collection: Japanese, pre-1915 of the Library of Congress.

Just sit back and take a closer look, you can of course also start dreaming a little.

Nach all den Nervereien der letzten Tage ist es heute einfach Zeit für ein wenig Zerstreuung. Und was bietet sich da besseres an, als seine Gedanken und auch seine Fantasie auf eine kleine Reise zu schicken.

Mokuhanga, die japanische Kunst des Holzschnittes hat in der Edo-Zeit ihre Blüte erreicht, als der vielfarbige Farbholzschnitt Nishiki-e 錦絵 sich bei Bürgern aller Schichten einer großen Berühmtheit erfreuen konnte und dadurch, dass die Drucke einem breiten Publikum zugänglich waren, riesige Erfolg feierte.

Besonders das Lebensgefühl der Stadtbevölkerung spiegelte sich in den detaillierten Holzschnitten deutlich wieder, Ukiyo-e 浮世絵 die fließende Welt lebt in unzähligen Drucken weiter.

Heute mal ein paar erste Eindrücke von dieser umwerfenden Technik und Tradition mit Szenen aus der Gegend in und um Edo, aus der Sammlung Fine Prints: Japanese, pre-1915 der Library of Congress.

Einfach mal zurücklehnen und genau hinsehen, ein bisschen träumen dürft ihr dabei natürlich auch gerne.
