Meanwhile Back At Ranch: New Calves And The Tractor Runs

I haven’t posted on the ranch since before thanks giving. It has been pretty hectic. I thought I would open with a picture of my little helper.

My son got a steal of a deal on three calves. So he went ahead and picked them up.
That brings the herd count up to 17. We had lost 4 last year in the bitter cold. So it’s nice to get back up above where we were. The new calves will be staying at Jade and Jadi’s for now . The others will be in my back yard so we can keep an eye on them for the winter.

The three in my back yard are doing grand! We will be moving these 2 lil ones in the photo below to my back yard soon.

We have been hauling hay out to the ranch and getting ready to move the herd out there to the next pasture.

Last Saturday we went out and inspected the cistern and worked on the tractor. We got the tractor to fire up after replacing the spark plug wires.

This is huge! It will save us a lot of time and work if we can make it dependable enough to feed and clear snow for this winter.
We have no electricity out there yet and that will probably take at least a month to get done. They have to come install a new transformer on the pole. So we bought a propane fired tank heater to hopefully get us by till then.
The weather has now turned back to cold and snow. We have our first real snow for the year. We got about 6 inches of snow and the temps will be in the single digits every night for the next week, the tank heater will be put to good use right away.
