THE LIFE IS A DREAM
They say that a king, deceived by astrologers, believed that his son about to be born, would sow disgrace in the kingdom.
Then, to avoid that destiny, he locked it from its source, tied with chains, in a solitary and isolated tower.
The boy prince was called Segismundo and when he became an adult, his father took him to the Palace to put him to the test.
That prince, who knew no other world, baffled, committed a thousand blunders, and his father, frightened, for what seemed to be the fate of the stars, narcotized him and took him back to the tower, chained.
The prince, then, thought that all he had lived was a dream, and said:
"What is life? A frenzy What is life? An illusion, a shadow, a fiction, and the greatest good is small that everything in life is dream and dreams, dreams are..."
But some time later, there was a revolt in that kingdom and the people took that prince to the throne.
The prince, then, already in power, understood everything that had happened and made a great government that his people thanked.
In this way, history reminds us that our destiny is not traced in the stars but written by each one of us, with our personal actions.
That work is called "La vida es Sueño", and the author is the Spanish writer Pedro Calderón de la Barca, a prolific, brilliant and versatile man of letters who was born on a day like today.
