Random Act of Kindness - the day we were helped

It was a bright evening. We had our afternoon lunch quite early and dressed in our finery to join a group of villagers. We were traveling to the nearby city to attend the marriage of a cousin whose grandparents also lived in our village.

My inlaws bid us farewell. We promised that we would be back in a few hours. My (late)father in law looked a bit uneasy but we thought it was probably due to his asthma. My mother in law assured that she was capable to look after him, alone.

We boarded the bus, had lots of fun, talking and teasing the bridegroom who was traveling with us, as well. we reached the place and were received well and ate snacks that were served.

There was a nischayathaamboolam function and I took out the camera to take photos when my husband came running to me. He looked pale and was almost shouting that his mother had called and told that my fil was having fits and was lying unconscious. We were ready to leave but since we had left our van near the bridegroom's house, we had no means to travel quickly except using the public transport system.

A stranger approached us and told us that he was ready to give his car and driver to us and escort us back to our house. We were stunned. The person introduced himself as the bride's uncle and told us not to waste time in formalities. We bid a goodbye to all and traveled by his car which was a very comfortable one. The driver's friend also accompanied us and kept pacifying my husband. We reached our house in an hour and though the driver refused, we paid him an amount and rushed in. My fil recovered soon though the fits did occur a few more times over the years and he finally succumbed after an operation for hip bone fracture, a few years later.

The random act of kindness by the stranger inspired my husband so much that whenever he sees people who are stranded, he offers a lift. One such instance was when there was a bandh(strike) and he had gone to the railway station to drop off his sister. There were no buses and an elderly uncle was looking lost. My husband knew him as one of our distant relatives and offered to drop him at his house. The man was so pleased, he kept thanking him.

A kind act of love can be rewarded at a time when we least expect it. It is like an insurance amount we pay to the ALMIGHTY

STAY BLESSED
