Types of rainbow
Rainbows can take many forms: multiple arcs, intersecting arcs, red arcs, identical arcs, arcs with colored edges, dark streaks, "spokes" and many others, but they are united by the fact that they are all divided into colors - red, orange, yellow , green, blue, blue and purple.
Rainbows appear when light is refracted through water droplets in the atmosphere, most often during rain, but haze or fog can also create similar effects, and are much rarer than one might imagine. At all times, many different cultures attributed rainbows to many meanings and explanations, for example, the ancient Greeks believed that the rainbow was the road to heaven, and the Irish believed that in the place where the rainbow ends - the leprechaun buried its pot of gold.
Fiery rainbow
For sure, every person at least once in his life saw a rainbow. It appears after the rain and always causes a lot of positive emotions, a sense of joy and faith in the fulfillment of cherished desires. There are many forms of this seven-color miracle of nature, but perhaps the most amazing one can be called a fiery rainbow.
Scientists call it an ocular-horizontal arc and refer to one of the rare types of optical effects that arise in the atmosphere. A fiery rainbow appears high in the sky against the background of cirrus clouds, but only when strict conditions are met. The first one deals with the location of the sun. It should be above 58 degrees above the horizon line. The second is the presence of cirrus clouds consisting of hexagonal ice crystals. The third condition, which turns a fiery rainbow into an unusual natural phenomenon, concerns the location of these very crystals. Their faces must be parallel to the ground. Under such a scheme, the sunlight will enter the vertical face, be refracted, and exit from the horizontal underside. This will ensure the separation of light into a spectrum that "censuses" cirrus clouds with all the colors of the rainbow.
A fiery rainbow has nothing in common neither with fire, nor with dangerous natural phenomena. Its name, she received only thanks to a beautiful effect, reminiscent of a multi-colored flame in the clouds.
If you manage to see a fiery rainbow at least once in your life, then you can safely consider yourself lucky and, just in case, make a wish. After all, it appears only if all the conditions are met exactly. Even the slightest deviation from them will not allow us to "ignite" the sky with this unusual natural phenomenon. Watch it for hours, but, alas, only in photos. In real time, a firebowbang exists much less and only in some geographical areas. So, over the past few years, it was observed only in the states of New Jersey and Idaho.
Circumferential arc
A circumgenital arc is a rainbow upside down. It turns out such a miracle due to the refraction of the sun's rays through horizontal ice crystals in clouds of a certain shape. The phenomenon is concentrated in the zenith, parallel to the horizon, the color range - from the blue in the zenith and to the red to the horizon. This phenomenon is always in the form of an incomplete circular arc; full circle in a similar situation - an exceptionally rare Arc of the Infantry, which was first captured on film in 2007.
Moonlight Rainbow
Moonlight Rainbow - this is a fairly rare phenomenon in the Earth's atmosphere and appears only with the full moon. To create a lunar rainbow, you need: a full moon, not covered by clouds, and rainfall falling out. The real moon rainbow is half the size of the sky.
Night Rainbow
Each of us has seen the usual rainbow more than once. But very few people know that in nature there is another rainbow - night, this phenomenon is much more rare phenomenon than the rainbow that we see in the sunlight.
The night rainbow is a rainbow that appears under the light of the moon. She is much paler than usual. At full moon (or close to full), the night rainbow is the brightest. For its appearance, it is also necessary that the rain should go across the moon, yet this phenomenon can be observed over the waterfalls. The night rainbow can be seen in just a few places in the world - waterfalls in Cumberland, Yosemite National Park (USA), Kentucky (USA), Waimea (Hawaii).
White rainbow
A white or misty rainbow is a natural phenomenon in the form of a wide shiny white arc.
The fog that gives birth to it consists of smaller particles of water, and light, refracted in tiny droplets, does not color them.
It is very difficult to see such a rainbow, since it practically does not stand out from the fog. Most often this kind of rainbows are formed over the sea.
Rare four-level rainbow
An incredibly rare phenomenon was seen on Long Island in New York. The lucky ones were able to capture the four rainbows that appeared in the sky at the same time.
Amanda Curtis has posted in the "Tweeter" photo with four separate multi-colored arcs. The phenomenon that captured Curtis is extremely rare. In 2011, LiveScience reported that in only 250 years, only five three- and four-level rainbows were recorded.
The rainbow forms light reflected from the rain drops. Double rainbows are obtained, the code light is reflected inside the drop twice, triple - three times, four-level rainbows appear when the light is reflected four times.
Usually, the third and fourth levels are extremely difficult to see, since each reflection of the original rainbow is duller than the previous one.
