Locking Up Our Own: Crime & Punishment in Black America (James Forman Jr)

in #racism6 years ago

GUEST: James Forman, Jr. (JamesFormanJr.com), author of “Locking Up Our Own: Crime and Punishment in Black America.” (PARDON THE BAD SKYPE CONNECTION.) His father and mother were in SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) and Black Panther Party, became atheist, had their children out-of-wedlock (interracial marriage was illegal in many states). The guest won’t answer if he believes in God. He thinks we shouldn’t put people in jail for marijuana possession even though it’s against the law. Jesse says there’s no such thing as “racism,” and James takes issue with it, and they debate whether slavery and Jim Crow were “racist.” Jesse asks if blacks were moral, marrying, raising their kids right, would they be having the problems they have? James doesn’t want to generalize any people as “moral” or “immoral.” Jesse asks if America was immoral for slavery? He won’t answer it. Jesse says he doesn’t want to be honest. He gets mad and hangs up as Jesse thanks him and ends the interview. But he ran. But Jesse was ready to finish up the interview anyway. So no Chicken Song. But he did get mad and run. Originally aired Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017, Hour 1 on Newsmax TV. Jesse also sings his song "Trump Is on Fire."
