Racism and people trafficking.

I've legitimately seen posts from people complaining about how frustrated they are that people are focused on child/sex trafficking right now, because they think it's a scapegoat for people to not talk about the issues they want to talk about like race.

Some are upset because they think you're trying to avoid talking about Black Lives Matter and other systemic racism issues, even though anyone who would openly express their opinion on those issues likely already has.

This seems to ignore that people of both major political persuasions are talking about the issue, black people are disproportionately trafficked (so it's a completely relevant topic), news on Epstein's abuse have surged again since Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested in June, and talks about kids' wellbeing are mainstream due to the convo about reopening schools.

Even if you take those factors out of the equation, you could say it's due to anti-trafficking organizations' incredibly smart marketing campaigns to point out that trafficking is slavery, or that children are the defenseless and voiceless in society.

The lockdowns are relevant too. Child abuse and exploitation are linked to unemployment, increased online activity, etc., all of which have been exacerbated by the lockdowns.
Literally the two biggest debates of the year – lockdowns and race – are connected to trafficking.

I just can't believe there are people who are frustrated with you for focusing in on something as nonpartisan and horrific as trafficking instead of what they want you to be talking about.

Sort:

America is the melting pot of the world, race has no place here and any one that thinks the color of a persons skin matters is the racist and the problem.
