The Term 'African-American'..

Some people (black and white) don't like the term 'African-American'.. I find this topic very interesting and important. I'm certainly for multiculturalism and we're all one Human race but how can we still honor and celebrate ancestral heritage and cultural differences? What about Europeans? Asians? It seems as though blacks in America find themselves in a unique position of culture identity. They were either a. brought here against their will from Africa or b. were already here as Native Americans. Either way, it seems as there should be something to be proud about that goes deeper than only saying 'American'. Pride and connection to the past are important.. I'm very proud of my Cherokee and Irish heritage, especially because they were oppressed and treated as less than their inhumane 'masters'. It doesn't feel right to me to remove 'African' from 'American'. Of course, the irony is that the Human race started in Africa.. so we're really all Africans.
