A man killed in 'gunfight' with police in Comilla's Devi Bazar
In a gunfight with police in the area of Chevrakukuria in Debibazar Upazila of Comilla. A person named Sumon, 35, was killed. The police claim Sumon was a member of the Antzeela gang. There are 15 cases against various charges including robberies against him.
The deceased Sumon's house is located in Kuruwen village of the same upazila. Officer-in-Charge of Debiwar Police Station Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident.
According to the police, the police 'gunfight' happened with the robbers at around 1:15 pm on Friday. Police recovered a pipe gun and a cartridge from the spot.
OC Mizanur Rahman said a group of robbers was preparing for the robbery on Debbidar-Chandina road in Chacharapukuria area. The police came to know about the news. After seeing the presence of the police, the robbers threw bullets and bricks at police. Three members of the police were injured during this time. Then the police fired 19 bullets of shotguns for self defense. At one stage, the firing started between the two sides. He was shot in Sumon He died after taking him to hospital.
There is no statement of Sumon's family killed in the incident.
Police said two cases will be filed in two cases related to police duty prevention and arms recovery. The case is under process.
