From all the fond memories of childhood, one particular instance that keep flashing in front of my eyes is sitting next to a bonfire cooking stove and listening to some stories and eating our dinner. Especially whenevl I visit to my village/rural areas during winter month. Yes... that is how I grown up.

That use to be the favourite place among all the siblings in evening, we sat around the bonfire cooking stove the moments it get dark and have our dinner together. Even now I enjoy the same...As the winter season knocking the door the evening gets bit cold enough to enjoy some winter flames

The hidden child in me start pampring the moment I saw the flames and cooking utensils on top of the bonfire stove. The stove is actually made up of Mud with some strong iron rods within making it like a concrete stove. These type of stove get lit up using combustible woods which were placed inside from one side and then lit up using some falamable oils (in my case kerosene) or using some combustible material like paper. The slowly burning wood is covered with high flames soon and the cooking gets easier.

This is an age old method of cooking in villages where LPG cylinder and cooking gas supply is no where. People generally depends upon these make shift temporary stove for cooking. These were generally constructed in one of the kitchen along the wall, so that it don't be obstacle in walking in the room.

One can imagine the dark scenario, when the stove is burning with no lights around. That one stove can illuminate the whole room. Another aspect of village in India, is that there hardly any electricity supplied, so lamps or lantern use to be the only source of lighting.

Sitting around the bonfire, in dark room and listening to some tales and stories from mom or nanny can be very memorable. The memory which still stand strong somewhere within the heart.

I happen to went to my childhood while I saw the burning flames and cooking taking place. Being so low in size, sitting on the floor is the only option while cooking. Nowadays, we have all the gas supplies available still we can find these bonfire stove in every village home. Most of the family uses these for cooking non-veg items. Or some put them in use especially during religious function.

I tried to capture the burning flames while sitting along with my family members. The lifeline of many households during winter, and me having some special memory attached with these.

This winter flames is my entry to @qurator #photofriday contest. These were shot using my mobile phone in one of those nights while remembring and enjoying the gone childhood days.
