RE: 10 Quotes on Writing by John Sandford

"Most people like a little sex in their novels."

Yeah, a little. Not too much, though, or I find myself skipping over those scenes, because they distract from the plot. Of course, in high school and college, those were my favorite scenes, but it changes as you get older.

Myself, I do it old-time movie-style---I do a little flirting and what you know is leading up to sex, then fade out and come back in after the deed is done. That way, I don't have to distract from my novel by writing a sex scene, and readers can leave the details to their imaginations.

LOL! Thats funny. I feel the same way about sex in novels. There is a balance. I hate scenes with graphic sex, that's not why I'm reading the book. Even when I was younger I din't like stories with a lot of sex. In my experience, I have found books with a lot of sex aren't that good, like "Fifty Shades of Gray." And I agree with what Stephen King said, "I read Fifty Shades of Grey and felt no urge to go on." I tried to read it and got about twenty to thirty pages and closed it.
