Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill was twice Prime Minister. In this capacity, he led Britain through the Second World War. He is one of the most important British statesmen of the 20th century.
Previously he was, among other things, Minister of the Interior, First Lord of the Admiralty and Chancellor of the Exchequer.
He was also the author of various political and historical works. In 1953 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
He is regarded as a pioneer of a politically united Europe.
