Famous Quotes by Socrates
Socrates (470/469 – 399 BC) was a classical Greek (Athenian) philosopher, and is credited as the founder of Western philosophy. He is an enigmatic figure known chiefly through the writings of his student Plato.
Socrates became famous for his work on logic, epistemology and a fascination with the human mind over the physical body.
He wanted to establish an ethical system based on human reason by pointing out that human choices were motivated by the desire for happiness, that wisdom comes from introspection.

When the political climate of Greece changed, a trial against him started due to his attack on traditional Greek values and according to his accusers, Socrates was “refusing to recognise the gods recognised by the state”, and “corrupting the youth”.
At the trial he had three hours to present his case and to defend himself, instead, he presented his philosophical ideas which the 500 members of the jury couldn't understand.
He had 2 option: get exiled from Athens or death by hemlock poisoning, Socrates choosed the second offer, becoming his own executor.
